Vodafone has recently dropped from 1st to 3rd in our speed tables (having held top spot for every previous set of results) however we see less complaints relating to speed issues with Vodafone than with most other providers and they have consistently been one of the top performers in speed tests so score 4 out of 5.
Performing above average in this area like most networks Vodafone is investing heavily in improving their network which will give more consistent speeds, coverage and reliability. However coverage is currently as good as or better than its rivals in most areas.
Second only to T-Mobile in customer support Vodafone responded well to our technical support questions with calls answered in a decent time and our questions answered accurately and in plain English. Vodafone score highly for following T-Mobile’s lead in offering a flat rate where you will never pay more than a fixed price for your mobile broadband usage is you exceed your download limit. Their fair usage policy means they won’t cap your use but may contact you to move you to a more appropriate plan if you regularly exceed your download limit.
With a wide range of deals, data plans and decent free laptop offers competitively priced Vodafone can’t be faulted for choice or value. Furthermore their uncapped fair usage policy scores them extra points for value for money.
Whilst not quite scoring top marks in any one area Vodafone score consistently well in all areas with good speeds, coverage, customer service and value for money plus a wide range of plans. By following T-Mobile’s lead and introducing an unlimited fair use policy Vodafone score bonus points putting them at the top of the pile for this year’s reviews.
I have had Vodafone for a year or so and, while I’ve been able to connect virtually everywhere, it’s often not via the 3G system so is very slow. Particular disappointing areas were in North London, central Bristol, south side of Bath while in Fowey there was no connection. On the other hand, a remote part of North Wales was quite good!
My original contract was via a cashback site so came with a considerable cashback and I think has been worth the experiment. Now I’m paying the full £15 a month I’m looking for better speed and ‘connectivity’ so intend trying another provider.
Set-up is very easy.
The speed seems to be good, given I am living in a week signal area.
But my worry is the dongle software. It doesnt connect, whenever I need. When it connects I cant get on internet. Have to play around few times. I am on Vista and may be its something funny Vistas got to do as well though.
I am thinking of trying 3 as well. However, £15/month for 3Gb on a 1 month contract with no cost for dongle is a good starter I feel.
To use this modem, you have to allow Vodaphone to spy on you. Not only that, they seem to block all the site that I want to look at (Formula one!!!). I will be going back to 3 at my first opportunity and cutting my losses here
i tried vodafone and 3 and now in 2010 3network is way ahead all networks about coverage. i think vodafone it has only the good name and people still think is good but its one of the worst mobile companies in UK verrryyy poor signal, which is never improving. if ur thinking to go for a mobile broadband 3uk is the best and second is Orange.
Please please please please please do not waste your time and money on Vodafone mobile broadband… The service is poor at the best of times and non existant the rest of it. Shop staff are rude and ignorant and untrained (or untrainable - you decide), customer service is an oxymoron as there is no service to the customers. If one person reads this and stays away from this bunch of muppets, I will be a happy bunny!!!
All i can say is that I wish I’d stayed with 3 - What does that tell ya!!!
Well, What can I say! Vodafone have been the best mobile broadband service by far! I’ve tried 3, and to be honest, although they may have ads placed everywhere, they’re support is very poor at 3, and vodafone, clearly do have better support, and guide you.
Soon as I bought the Vodafone 3 Mobile Broadband (3mb) for 12 Months, It arrived the very next day, plugged it in, no trouble at all, got an average speed of 4-6mb! (They say upto 7.2mb)
Took it on holiday, and speeds were much better than 3 in fact, average speeds in London were about 2-3mb and even tried it on the Motorway (Although disconnected some times) but speed was still 5-6mb!
I don’t know why people are rating this 3/4 out of 10 because to be honest, Vodafone are the best Mobile Broadband Service out there, OK, 3 beats them on price, but to be honest, quality matters, not looks and designs, although Vodafone does have a nice simple White dongle with there logo and supports 3G networks!
The coverage for Vodafone is also amazing! Took my netbook on the beech, plugged the dongle in, speeds of around 2-3mb which is pretty good, so can’t complain!.
So, Overall, I would recommend the Vodafone 3mb Mobile Broadband Service, It’s easy to setup, (Just Plug and Play basically). After trying 3’s service, it was very poor. Vodafone are my number 1 choice for Mobile Broadband.
Things you may like: Allows you to connect to GPRS/3G Networks wherever you are, does state an estimate of how much bandwidth you are using, They do have trials which allow you to test it first, as well as Next Day delivery for your dongle!
Things you may not like: Setup may take some time when you first install it (i.e. 10-15 mins), I admit, in some area’s you will get very low speeds, even reaching into the 56K Dialup connection speeds! But, nevertheless, I still feel that the speeds are the highest compared to other providers
Vodafone, Excellent Coverage, Fast Speed, Superb Support
3, Excellent Coverage, Low Speed, Disconnections, Bad Support
02, Not Bad Coverage, Average Speed, Excellent Support.
When I first got vodafone mobile broadband i had a few problems setting it up on my laptop. The customer service team were extremly helpful and since i’ve got it up and running it’s been great. Would recommend!
Got mobile broadband because my girlfriend doesn’t have broadband at hers and I didn’t want to pay for broadband twice. I used to have Be 24Mb broadband and it’s not as fast as that and can struggle with online games but I guess that’s to be expected. It’s performed better than I expected and I wouldn’t switch back to non mobile broadband. I love that it’s easy to use and you can get online any where with your laptop. Have already recommended Vodafone mobile broadband to my dad. I wouldn’t recommend it for online gamers but for pretty much anything else it’s very capable.
Overall I’m very happy with the Vodafone USB broadband stick. I travel lots on business and overall I get good speeds and a good connection. My one gripe is that speeds sometimes slow down going through certain areas on the train. I’ve also used it in a number of countries abroad and coverage has been good there too and I guess it’s probably more secure than using an open network in a coffee shop!
Overall I’m pretty pleased with my Vodafone mobile broadband, it seems to work well even in rural areas and the speeds have been better than expected. Really simple to use, my 2 year old could probably set it up and I haven’t had to phone customer service or technical support so far, touch wood!! I’m slightly annoyed to have paid full price though now I see they are advertising the same deals at half price!! That aside I’d give them top marks.
