A little slower than average with average download speed of 1.3Mbs O2 a touch off the average mobile broadband speed of 1.5Mbs. These speeds are fine for general web use and emails but a little slow for downloading or watching video clips of movies.
Whilst speeds may bee a little slow coverage is decent and like all the networks is improving all the time as upgrades to the network are carried out. We here less complaints about O2’s coverage than with many of the other networks.
O2’s UK based call centre is a positive for many people who are become increasingly frustrated with providers basing their call centres aboard to save money to the detriment of customer service. Whilst they don’t offer the same uncapped fair use policies as Vodafone and Three which avoid nasty bills for exceeding your data allowance O2 still scores strongly here due to good customer service. O2 also offer a 30 day ‘happiness’ money back guarantee.
A reasonable choice of plans and free laptop deals with pricing competitive but not the cheapest there should be a plan to suit most budgets and types of user.
A 30 day money back guarantee and award winning UK based customer support make O2 a decent option. Speeds could be better but should continue to improve whilst coverage is reasonably good. Value for money is OK and there’s the added benefit of priority tickets for O2 events (such as music concerts).
Nightmare! The software takes-over your wifi connection & dissables microsoft. The O2 software is so incredibly slow! About 4 mins after computer the O2 software wakes up! Then it slows the internet speed by about a half. When I unistalled the O2 software it left me without any wifi. Try Tmobile. great fast dongle, excellent software, great coverage!
Just got my dongle the other day and I must say I’m not impressed. I only got it so that I can check emails and do a little browsing when I’m not at home, which seems to be pretty useless right now as the thing keeps timing out when I try to open gmail or hotmail. Same with quite a few sites, despite my signal strength being labelled as “very good”.
The speed is even worse than I remember my old 56k dialup being way back in 1997 (although it may be just because I’m used to ultrafast broadband at home these days so it seems slower). That said, O2 sell this thing on the basis of high speeds, watch videos, download whatever etc etc. I’ve been connected now for 45 minutes and have managed to open 6 pages - 1 of which was a page I actually *wanted* to open. That happens to be this page as I wanted to add this review after not nbeing able to open anything else. I was surprised I even got this open.
Anyway…. at least it’s a nostaligic reminder of the thumb-twiddling that used to go on back in the dial-up days, coupled with the excited expectation when an image on the screen finally appears…. followed by another……. and another……. and another….. and…….. *connection timed out*
SHEESH!
Its okay
stays connected usally unlike 3
bit of a pain on youtube playing music videos or steaming websites.
beats 3 mobile broadband as I borrowed it off a friend once.
images blurr on webpages thoe as o2 use image compression which is annoying
Got O2 mobile broadband a few weeks ago and speeds are up and down, but in general it’s been really useful to have internet access on the train.
I purchased a pay as you go dongle from O2 about 2 months ago. I went to stay in Nottingham for a week thinking i’d be able to use my O2 dongle and I had no signal so was unable to use it. Have used it since in Manchester and was fine, when it works the speeds are not too bad.
