Customer support are trying but no cigar.

Used to work fine,with acceptable speeds. Since the beginning of June the service has gone to pot. Speeds are slower than the old dialup. 3 say it's because they have switched to a new mast in my area and it is not sharing connections properly. Customer service say it could take up to a month to fix??? You could build a new mast in that time, and then some. They are making refunds to my account, but this isn't much help when you need to get some work done. I waste hours to load pages and download what I need. I've tried four dongles on two different PCs, even tried with the dongle up a 3 metre pole outside. How many engineers do they have? Seems like they only have one, and he's on a push bike. I think they are playing for time as I have told them "fix it or I'm off". I don't believe it would take that long to fix a fault.

waste of time and money

i first had a standard dongle which worked fine and still does giving and average download of 4 mbps and still does,i decided to upgrade to there mifi and gave the standard dongle to my son.On some days i don't get any service at all,others i can but only for 10-20 mins then drops out(DNS service fail,complained to 3 just to be treated like an idiot trying to baffle me and contradicting themselves.They admitted there service is not set up properly and wont be for another 8 months or so,god help us when they bring out there so called hspa+ which is men't to give 42 mbps which they have got on trial.If they can't sort out there existing service what will be the new (up to 42 mbps but you may get 5 if your lucky if it does not drop out or connects).My advice is to keep away.They may have some of the best deals but not the capability or service to match.

very slow most of time, taken me 5 mins or so just to get on this page, sites just take an age to load, seems to go down various times of the day, nothing good about this, customer service is even worse.

I use the new mifi router and have an average speed of 9.6mps, I would never use any other company. the customer service is 100% and I would recommend them, I know some people who have landline broadband and dont get 25% of my speed, keep it up 3.

As a University sports administrator I travel around the UK by rail on a regular basis, and having a 3-Mobile PAYG dongle has allowed me to use travel time much more productively. None of the train operating companies from South of the River Thames offer free wi-fi, so Mobile Broadband access is very useful. With 3-Mobile coverage is very good and the upload/download speeds are often fast enough to stream high-quality video. Only downside is that I don't always use up th 500 Mb data allowance @ £3 before it expires at the end of the next day! The Text Message add-ons are also useful, as I send and receive a fair number of these!

06/01/2012 ...Coventry, west midlands... people please put a date as 3 had a bad network once but maybe not now..so without a date or area how can we truly compare!.. or know if to join or avoid!!! I've only just took the "worrying plunge" and joined 3 network after being with orange for years and there dongle for nearlly 2years! .. and I'm immediately impressed and having FAR better speed results than with orange dongle! orange download speeds averaged 0.5mbps and very rarely ever got near to, or showed a full 1.0mbps .. and the upload average was 0.3mbps or so.. awful really and hard to watch videos without freezing constantly and not able to watch at all many times. 3's download is constantly above 1.0mbps ranging from good average of above 2.0mb to a great 3.0 to 4.0mb.. i've even had between 6.0 and 7.0mbps... and believe me or not a massive 8+ mbps!!! very very impressive so far! even upload is good..usually above 1.0mbps up to 2+ mbps Im running 3 network on a Samsung galley S2 ANDROID and the figures above are by using it as a wifi connection to an apple mac os x ...so the results are fantastic! Im consistently getting there best signal which is HSDPA so thats probably why its so good so far!!!!! I can watch videos straight away and no freezing so far at all ""AMAZING"" ONE LAST THING THAT MAY BE VERY IMPORTANT IN THE RESULTS OF INTERNET SPEED!!!! ... before I went to apple which runs safari internet i was on "windows vista then tried windows 7" and the orange dongle was un-userable many times .. I was forever calling orange!! nearlly throwing the laptop out of the window in the frustrated anger it would create.. screens froze and uploading pages would take forever!!!! I personally feel its not "just" the mobile network thats important when it comes to MOBILE BROADBAND but also how good the system you are using ie quality of laptop/pc speed.. the system they run ie safari .. android .. windows etc personally I would avoid windows as I found that the biggest cause of my problems and not the network with orange although there dongle isnt very good I feel !!!! tip.. get a free 3mobile sim and use in phone for a few days to test it for signal strength in the area's you use most!!! if its mostly a full signal or only a bar off then there mobile broadband dongle will be great for you!! (possibly depending on the quality of the equipment/system your using) only my opinion! cant comment to much on reliability or support yet but I did speak to a 3 technical guy yesterday who was great in connecting me on the wifi so fingers crossed on support also.. if you get the right person to talk to .. wish i'd asked his name for future reference!! So conclusion for me so far is ... 3mobile network on a GOOD android phone is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SO FAR.. and far far better than Orange ever was for me in my area that is! Moral is ..test the signal with a free sim before you buy and thats on any network and not just with 3mobile!!!!! Well done 3mobile so far!!! :-D

Avoid like the Plague

10 months after I took out a contract I am still waiting for many questions to be answered by 3, such as why was the first 14 days of my contract good when I could have cancelled and the rest an absolute nightmare, why does speed suddenly shoot up when visiting a speed test website, why did you gladly sell me a 15GB package which I have never exceeded in any month but that you clearly cannot service properly, why do you constantly promote yourself as the best thing since sliced bread when so many of your customers, more than for any other network, don't have a nice word to say about you, why are your customer services so difficult to deal with. Stay away from 3!

18 months into a 24 month contract, had no problems for the first 15 months or so but then started getting frequently disconnected (at worst every couple of minutes), this occurred over a space of 5 weeks before finally getting fixed and then it started playing up again after a month, customer services are a pain in the backside (if you can hear/understand them at all) and try to blame the problem on everything else, it took me about a dozen phone calls to get the problem sorted the first time round and even then they only refunded me about £10 off my bill which is probably a lot less than I spent trying to refrain from delivering a violent tirade of abuse to several Indian call centre workers in the process of getting the problem fixed, which only turned out to be a temporary fix, if I was writing this within the first year of my contract then I would probably give them 4* all round but for the last 3-4 months it has been poor.... at best.

£15 for truly unlimited data! (not like all the other networks and their fair use policies) I quite like being able to use my modem for internet rather than a paperweight like my O2 and Vodafone modems. Both of which 3G coverage is non existent once you move out of a populated area. I can be sat in a secluded pub in the countryside and still get online with no issues. I will gladly admit that Three have never been all that but they seem to have got their act together. For that I give them 5 stars to match my 5 bars of 3G signal, which I've just tested and am receiving 7.1MB - And they say the max for my area is 4.5! Three all the way!

Live in the centre of Chester and have been unable to connect, moved PC a dozen times, tried on laptop, reinstalled software, got USB extension lead - NOTHING WORKED - NO CONNECTION _ I HAVE NO INTERNET - this is all quite annoying as you might imagine, would give minus figures if I could. Would willingly have paid more for something that worked. Did I mention NO CONNECTION? at all ever. (yes, even with firewall off and 5 bar signal strength)

I bought the dongle a year ago and was very pleased with it. It worked better than my home broadband with Sky or Virgin (another one to avoid!). I was so pleased I upgraded to their wi-fi device. Things went down from then on. The wi-fi device kept on disconnecting itself and had to be rebooted constantly. Then 6 months ago speed started to go down and now I cannot watch anything on the internet. Fed up with the wi-fi device I went back to my dongle but the same thing is happening. I get disconnected the moment I connect on the internet. Rarely does it allow me to stay on the internet for 10 minutes or so before disconnecting again. Speed is non-existant. Something is truly wrong with the technology, and their support is very courteous but useless. I am now changing to another provider, hence why I am on this site... Avoid!

i've had 3 mobile broadband for a number of years now never had any problems with it get a nice constant speed of 3.5meg once had 10.2meg which is 3meg over there 7.2 megs only down side is which is for all mobile bradband providers i think we should get more of a down load limit for are money i think that for £15 you should be getting around 20gig allownce which i think is far as to apose to home broadband packages it was fine when mobile broadband was new but its not any more and i would like to see speeds come up and match the digital age and start getting speeds of over at least 15megs

A total joke. A very expensive and time consuming customer service with people who you will struggle to understand. And what they won't tell you is that they have lost Orange as a carrier network so they have next to no signal unless you balance on one leg next to an open window in the attic. Sloppy, expensive and terrible customer service. You have been warned ! ! !

Terrible customer service. Forced to buy unwanted contract as a present as would not take card payment. Then took card payment when admitted it was their mistake but could not then cancel contract without a long wait. An hour on their expensive line with only one person able to even understand my postcode. Phoned back later but met with a queue. Did not even know what a delivery ticket looked like. Neighbour's address is being used with a scam phone number for phone sales allegedly backed by 3-according to the site. Neighbour very,very angry.

3 Mobile best mobile and broadband

I would and have recommended Hutchison 3G to all of my friends and family. They are extremely good value and their customer services are excellent. I have been with 3 for three years now and originally had a phone contract and now also have a broadband contract with a free netbook. The network coverage for 3 is superb and I have been able to use both the phone and mobile broadband almost anywhere in the country, and it is very fast on both devices. As a self-employed contractor it is imperative that telecommunications work when you need them to and 3 are the only organisation that I have used who deliver this level of service and do not try to rip you off and abuse you as a customer. I recently had a minor problem and called customer services, who got back to me immediately. The gentleman who has dealt with my case is Mr Vijay Chetty, he is charming, helpful and speaks perfect English. It really was a breath of fresh air to be treated so well and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Vijay for his exceptional service.

Customer service a joke. Ordered USB modem. After receiving nothing with no explanation & arguing with their Indian sales person that I wasn't paying the exhorbitant 0844 tarrif to be kept hanging on (or navigating the deliberately time-consuming menu structure) - finally found out that they've got a problem with my bank, of all things. It would have been at least the basic curtesy to eMail or write letting me know ! I'm sure if everything works then they're fine - just don't try to eMail or contact them on anything other than the expensive rate number. And if you bank with the Yorkshire - forget it !

Everyone is entitled to their personal opinion; However i have just literally received my Mobile Broadband Dongle/Laptop and can genuinely say its actually quicker than my home broadband with O2. I have had to cancel my landline as ive moved to another location. I am pleasently surprised at how quick its performing. It all comes down to your location.....but id personally reccomend it. Theres a lot of negative reviews but i suggest you try it yourself and if your unhappy just return it hassle free within 14 days.

I have a 15 GB enough monthly limit for my 3 USB dongle, I am aware of my usage limit but everytime I check my3 account, it just says 'You did not exceed the data limit...' but I do not see exactly how much bandwidth I have already used in the current month. After few days, I checked my3 again and suddenly I have 'EXCEEDED USAGE' of £50!!! This is like a TRAP for users who are not aware of their usage as it is not shown on the my3 the exact amount used!

I have had a 3 mobile for 4 years and always found the coverage was easily as good as Orange that I had been with for 11 years.I recently got a 3 dongle as the Bt broadband in our rural location was so slow(sometimes oly 400kbs).My 3 dongle works well,never drops out and is a reliable 1.3meg. I am fed up with all the negative comments about 3. I have always found the service good and would recomend them.

After a couple of years hassle free service, I have to admit defeat with 3G and their inept customer service and technical support Despite great service away from my home, my home connection is non-existent but 3G still insist in trying to reset my laptop, get me to change the software and other nonsensical excuses - the problem is always their localmast which for the last 3 months has been 'under repair'. Customer services just go around in circles with no idea of what to do except tell you to wait another 14 days. Well this customer has had enough and is off to another supplier.

Ignore the hype and read the customer reviews

Signal keeps dropping completely over the past few days and this happens every few minutes. The modem needs to be unplugged then plugged back in. Just another in a very long line of hiccups and problems with 3 - poor speeds, hanging connections, connection terminations, poor latency and throttling, which is the deliberate slowing down of connections during the busiest times. 3 are the only UK network to throttle speeds. And then there's the dreaded customer services. It's well documented online how bad they are. Arguably the worst of any UK service provider. Roll on August 16th when I have my day in court and fully expect my contract to be terminated. The only way to ensure you won't suffer the worst service imaginable is to choose any other network. I believe 3 will never get their act together. In this day and age, companies are bending over backwards for customer feedback so they can improve. Have you ever seen a questionnaire from 3 on how they can improve? Me neither and if ever a company needed a major overhaul and rapid reform, it's 3. Avoid!

Awful service, I can barely hold a connection long enough to check email at the moment. Since the software "upgrade" a few weeks ago it has been worse than ever. If you have a choice of ISP avoid 3! It may be fine in a major city with very strong signal, anywhere else, forget it.

I have to agree with those who have given poor reviews here. My 18 month contract with 3 has been nothing but disaster and ended finally last week to my great relief. Of all the mobile broadband review sites out there that provide average scores, Three rank the lowest on every single one. Orange and Vodafone proudly show their awards on their respective sites. These are industry awards given as recognition of a good service. Three don't do this because they have never won any awards and are not likely to. Three made an announcement last year warning customers that the service is geared to emails and basic browsing, rather than streaming and downloading. Why are they still selling 15GB packages then? Greed, of course. James is absolutely right a few reviews down. Three manipulate your service that you have paid for. And they do it poorly, which is typical Three. They don't have the infrastructure to support their current customer base, by a long way evidently. However, they are of course relentlessly looking to add new customers at every available opportunity. You still want Three mobile broadband? You must be mad. And if anybody from Three is reading this - when are you going to pull your finger out, do your job and provide the paying customer with a service that can be regularly used without constant issues? When are your customer services going to actually assist the paying customer rather than hinder and irritate them? You're a disgraceful company with an appalling level of contempt for your customers. It's no surprise whatsoever that so many are turning to the small claims court to rid themselves of useless contracts. And finally, if you don't like the nature of my review and others, improve the service. It's not rocket science. You're light years behind the major networks in every way. Incidentally, I live in Leeds and I have just successfully won a case against Three and I am no longer tied to a contract. My case was based on Three mobile broadband being unfit for purpose. They didn't challenge that.

There is a reason why so many reviews here and on other similar sites are so bad and so scathing. Three are a terrible company. And I mean really bad. They are incompetent, inept and unprofessional. Their quality of service is abysmal. Their customer service is abysmal. Email and website support are abysmal. Network speeds are abysmal. When you can get a working connection that is... All the info you need to get out of a contract, quickly and legitimately, is freely available on mobile broadband review sites. Funnily enough, they're in the reviews for 3. So, if you're stuck on a contract and unhappy with the service, which is highly likely, get out of it and don't pay them any more cash. Take a firm line with them and don't stand for any nonsense. Three's days are numbered. The Great British public are catching on as to how bad they are and how they have systematically failed to improve. If you're on the boat, get off as it's sinking. And if you're thinking about getting onto the boat for the first time. Don't. Your feet will get wet at the very least. Worst company I've ever come across. Avoid!

I bought this stupid 3M Internet stick back in Novemeber, signing up to an 18 month contract at Carphone warehouse. I was told that I had two days to try it out, and if it didnt work i could return it and stop the contract. However, it worked perfectly fine for a week, then all the reception stopped and since then I havent been able to use it for three months, because Ive had no reception. I phoned the 3 call centre dozens of times, only to be told that I cant cancel the contract without paying a £230 cancellation fee. Infuriated, I explained this to at least 10 different people at this call centre, and had the case reviewed each time, only for them to keep refusing me the right to cancel without a fee. Its ludicrous. Im paying for a service that worked for a week then failed. No one at the call centre will acknowledge this fact. I dont want to simply cancel my direct debit, as this will cause legal problems. So my only option is to keep paying for another year, for no service! I have written to 3 several times, with email and post and no one has even bothered to reply. After writing to Otelo, i was given an address and wrote an offical letter of complaint to 3, informing them that i had involved otelo. Low and behold, they finally cancelled the contract without fee. Persistance paid off. My advice? STAY AWAY FROM 3!

Avoid this company like the plague, they are dishonest, unhelpful and the product I bought for £100 is totally useless and I'm based just of off Oxford Street in London's West-end. Slow, unreliable and untrustworthy - connections lost frequently. Then they disabled Port 25 without tellong anyone and in effect disabled the product they sold me after I had used it for ony a few weeks. I spent days on the phone trying to find out why I couldn't send emails. When I tried to get a refund they just sent me round in circles and the people in their shop were not interested. When I threatened to take them to Court they would not communicate with me in writing.

Very Pleased indeed my speeds are always over 1.3 meg and upwards, and i live 3 miles away from the mast, no issues at all, three is better than o2, and orange as i kept being disconnected and there speeds were only 123kps - 312kps. Three mobile are a very good provider, if you get disconnected i found disabling the cdrom drive on the dongle in device manager stops any interuptions to your connection.. all in all well done three, keep the upgrades going. recommended to all..

I have been a 3 mobile broadband customer for 2 years. I live in east London. The speed has decreased over the last 12 months to a point where it is basically impossible to even connect to the internet. Customer support denies that there are any problems with the speed, even though it is obvious that the network cannot handle the number of licenses they have sold. I have tried to terminate my contract but have been told I need to call on a specific day in September (which is a Sunday!). 3 has not provided me with Terms and Conditions stating this fact, and they won't sent me the Terms and Condition. Don't touch their services.

For your sake please read before dealing with 3

I purchased 3 mobile internet on a 18 month contract in October 2008 (3 shop huntingdon). At the time I knew I would be moving and was told in the shop that 'I would always get coverage but the speed will vary'. The product worked as advertised until I moved address in April 2008. At my new address I cannot get any coverage. I complained to 3 and offered to pay them in full for the modem or suspend the contract until coverage was available. Sadly, 3 refuse to accept either offer so I will have to pay approx. £200 for nothing. In addition, because 3 have an 08707 number it has cost me £30 in calls to them. I will never get a contract with 3 again. My new home is in a large town with approx 2500 people and is 8 miles from peterborough - hardly the middle of nowhere and I get perfect mobile signal with my phone (vodaphone). I have taken my case to OFCOM. If you have to get a contract with 3 please make sure that you get any promises about coverage in writting, but better still don't get into a contract with them at all.

I was sceptical about going for a mobile broadband package but as I move house every year or so, it seemed like a good plan. After the initial purchase, the cost is low, the speed is reasonable and the download allowance suits us. We all like this service and would do it again.

3 broadband is great if you want to hav an oportunity to take your internet connection to everywhere you go. But the speed of it is good only for simple e-mailing and web browsing. Using 3 mobile broadband I have experienced difficulties with online shopping and looking on social network websites: due to low speed pictures either down and upload at all or do it very very very slowly.

I've had Three Mobile Broadband for 3 months now and have always found the speed to be pretty good. Sure, it's not as fast as my home broadband but none the less I've been happy with it to date and the coverage is good.

With an aggressive pricing policy 3 have some of the best value mobile broadband deals and free laptop offers. With a wide range plans for all types of usage from 1GB per month for most medium broadband users (1GB is enough for emailing, browsing the web, downloading music etc) through to a 15GB package for those that need a heavy usage plan for activities such as downloading or watching movies online.

Overall Verdict

3 can’t be faulted for price and range of choice, speeds are decent without being exceptional and coverage and reliability are average but on the up however this provider has the lowest score for customer service. If you are in a major town or city 3 is likely to perform as well or better than most other providers for a lower cost.
