LTE wireless broadband in the UK
Most mobile broadband providers have seen major increase in the number of smart phones and mobile broadband devices now being used over their networks and this in turn has led to a surge in the amount of data that is now moving around on their networks. This increased data usage now means that mobile network providers are having to seriously consider upgrading the network infrastructure they are currently using. LTE wireless broadband is currently one of a small number of technologies that is capable of providing the necessary speeds and capacity to allow the growing number of users to transfer large files and stream video and audio over their mobile broadband connection.
What advantages will LTE wireless broadband offer users?
A significant increase in download speeds and a far greater capacity for handling data being transferred across its network are just a few of the great benefits that LTE wireless broadband will offer users accessing mobile broadband services. The improvements made by LTE will allow users to do many of the things they could normally only do over a fixed line connection like download large data files, listen to streaming audio or even watch streaming high definition movies. When compared to the current 3G mobile broadband coverage there will also be considerable improvements in coverage levels for mobile users as LTE wireless broadband is rolled out throughout the country. The improvements brought about by the implementation of LTE wireless broadband will not only provide mobile users with extra benefits but will also allow users in the more remote parts of the country who currently have little or no fixed-line broadband access to gain high speed access to the internet.
Even though LTE may not offer the same speeds as the current high-speed fixed line broadband services it will, however, provide many users with enough speed and connection reliability to use their wireless broadband service to perform many of the tasks that a normal fixed line broadband connect could. Once LTE broadband begins rolling out many users will almost immediately start to see a massive difference in the level of coverage and the speed of data transfer over their providers’ network compared to the current 3G network and this is because LTE wireless broadband is able to cover much larger areas with far less equipment.
Will there be any alternatives to the LTE technology?
Following the many trials that have been carried out so far by providers in the UK LTE wireless broadband appears to be the most popular choice for many network providers, although there is another technology that may also be used for mobile broadband networks and that is WiMAX. The connection speeds and levels of coverage offered through WiMAX technology is quite similar to that of LTE wireless broadband and this would mean that it is unlikely users would be able to tell the difference between the two. When compared there are few differences between WiMAX and LTE wireless broadband but the technologies they use are completely different, which is why network providers will be considering both technologies before they decide to upgrade their mobile networks.
