LTE Mobile Internet in the UK
For many mobile network providers the huge increase in the number of smart phone and mobile broadband devices being used over their networks has cause a considerable strain on their networks due to a sharp rise in the amount of data that is now being accessed. To allow mobile networks to cope with this data surge mobile broadband providers are now looking at LTE mobile internet and other similar technologies to provide both the speeds and network capacity that is now required. Any providers implementing the new LTE mobile internet technology will enable their users to access their mobile broadband service to perform a wide range of data intensive activities.
How will LTE mobile internet affect the way users access mobile broadband?
When providers do decide to rollout new 4G technology like LTE mobile internet there will be a vast change in the way consumers will be able to use their mobile broadband service. The increases in the network capacity and connection speeds that mobile broadband users will experience from the implementation of LTE mobile internet will allow users to stream audio and high definition video, access applications and tools directly over the internet, download and upload large amounts of data over their connection, and many other things that normally would only be possible over a fixed line connection.
Another of the features that LTE technology will provide is a significant increase in the levels of coverage throughout the UK compared to the current 3G mobile broadband networks. The extended coverage offered by LTE mobile internet will provide users with high speed mobile broadband access from almost anywhere in the country. An LTE mobile internet service will also offer users who have trouble getting fixed line broadband access in the area they live with a viable alternative for getting access to the internet over a high-speed mobile broadband connection. The areas that will see the greatest benefits from LTE internet will be the more rural and remote parts of the country that currently find accessing the internet to be quite difficult.
Which other technologies will be competing against LTE?
Of the various new broadband technologies that are currently being looked at the only real rival to LTE mobile internet is a technology known as WiMAX. The WiMAX technology is very similar to LTE in terms of connection speeds, coverage and network capacity, although the technology itself is completely different. With the features offered by both technologies so similar it is taking mobile network providers quite a while to decide whether to go for a LTE mobile internet or WiMAX network infrastructure, although at the moment a number of providers have been trialling the LTE mobile internet and they appear to be favouring this technology over WiMAX. As the rollout of either technology will involve a complete upgrade of the current network most mobile network providers will be weighing up the benefits of both technologies before they do decide to go with LTE mobile services.
