LTE Internet in the UK
The current 3G networks in the UK are now becoming overloaded with the constant increase in the number of mobile devices like smart phones or 3G mobile broadband and this is leading mobile network providers to look for new technology with which to build their next generation network. One new technology that has stood out for most providers is Long Term Evolution (LTE) internet, which offers a significant increase in network capacity in terms of how many users can get online and how much data they will be able to transfer over the LTE internet network. The speed at which users will be able to download data over an LTE internet service is also something that providers have looked at when considering this technology.
How will the introduction of Long Term Evolution internet affect users’ mobile broadband experience?
Once the existing 3G network is eventually replaced by a new fourth generation of 4G technology like Long Term Evolution internet many users will see a huge improvement in the way that they will be able to use their mobile broadband devices. Users accessing an LTE internet service will find that they will be able to download and upload data at much higher speeds than they are currently able to and the increased capacity LTE internet networks can provide will also allow users to get online even at the busiest time without the loss of connection quality or speed. The network improvements that LTE internet offers will bring mobile broadband services one step closer to matching a standard fixed line broadband connection in terms of both stability and speed.
The network coverage offered by 3G mobile broadband networks still has a lot of gaps in it and many areas than can get it sometimes suffer from poor connection, quality, and speed. This will not be the case with LTE internet systems as the technology it uses can provide coverage over a vast area, which will provide high-speed mobile broadband access to users all over the country including the rural and remote parts of the UK that currently have no coverage at all either from fixed line connections or mobile broadband services.
How will LTE internet compare against its WiMAX rival?
In essence both Long Term Evolution internet and WiMAX offer network providers very similar functionality when it comes to network capacity and connection speeds. The technology that they use, however, is very different and it is this that is making network providers think very hard before deciding whether to opt for LTE internet or WiMAX for their mobile network infrastructures. The cost implication of deploying these technologies throughout their mobile network is forcing mobile network providers to weigh up all the advantages and disadvantages that come with the two technologies, although so far most of the 4G trials that have been carried out in the UK have been on LTE internet systems – and so far the providers have received very good results from this technology. Even though LTE internet is currently seen as the most popular there has been no indication of which of these technologies will officially be classed as a 4G technology so it is likely that most mobile broadband providers will hold back until a final decision has been made.
