MAC codes and how to switch broadband provider

Switching broadband is easy, follow these steps and you will have your new broadband connection in place in no time.

1. Phone your old provider and ask for your MAC code, the number you need to call can be found here

2. Compare broadband deals in your area or use our switching guide to help choose the best broadband package

3. Click through to the broadband provider you wish to move to and enter your MAC code when prompted to on their website

4. Your new connection will usually be in place within 1 to 2 weeks and often even sooner than this.

What is a MAC code

A MAC code is a special code given to you by your broadband provider when you wish to switch provider and will be 17-18 digits in length. The MAC Code provides all the information your new broadband provider requires to ensure a quick and smooth transition to your new broadband provider.

What if my broadband provider won’t give me my Mac code Many providers will try and persuade you to stay with their service. Your provider must give you your MAC code when requested; Ofcom, the industry regulatory body, have introduced regulations stating that all ADSL providers must supply Mac codes when requested.
