We received the message below and
found our service wouldn’t work,
without any warning.
We’re on a Mac & the ‘help’ didn’t
apply to us. None of the Virgin people
on ‘151′ had an idea. & when we got
through to a dept. that did, they said
they’d only help if we paid for support
in re-setting the airport.
It wasted 3 hrs. We only got
reconnected with our own effort
(despite Virgin, not with their help).
They let us down, BADLY, today. Not a
service to rely on..
Their message:
We’ve noticed that you appear to have
manually set your DNS servers.. you
will need to update your Computer,
Firewall or Router..We’ve set out some
simple instructions
If you still require assistance - call
151..and we will get you surfing
again!
(No, they didn’t)
Ok, 1 section at a time…
Reliability: Good, never had any major problems
customer suport: mostly Ok, Except for the long waits tom get through to someone (and on a positive note, my understanding of the Indian accent is improving)
Speed: Well now here the thing… if you download very little, then speeds quite good, however should you Ever dare think of taking VM up on their offer of ‘unlimited’ DL, then your in for a BIG shock, during the day, their traffic management will slash you DL spped by 80%, and then forget about upload, and if you try to do most of your DL during the night , they eventually send you latters saying your abusing the system. i’ll give ANYONE £100 if yo can get VM to state what amount is ‘fair usage’,
Sad to see all these negative reviews but then again most people complain but don’t praise.
I started on Telewest in 2003 and have been with them since. The price is a bit high but I have no other complaints. Currently on the telephone, 20Mbit Internet and Large TV package.
Had one modem change - last year when the old one gave up and also one set-top-box change in 2007. Customer support was good everytime.
I repair computers for a living so I have experience with most of the UK’s ISPs on my clients’ premises. Let’s just say I won’t be moving to ADSL anytime soon!
As long as you’re not downloading tons of stuff during peak hours you wont get throttled.
Virgin Media Broadband is easily the worst connection in England. Unfortunately it is too late for me, i have already sold my soul to this devil in return for 12 months of the biggest pile of fecal matter. Virgin claim in adverts to be the best when in fact they cap entire area codes (including mine) which makes it impossible to enjoy so called ‘Broadband speeds’ and instead throws you back to the mid 90s with speeds resembling that of dial up. i wish this was an exaggeration, truly i do, for if it were perhaps I’d feel as though i weren’t being ripped off. browsing the internet is infuriating and playing online games is literally impossible. This service sickens me! Run away quickly from their false advertising and cowboy service.
I have a complete virgin package.
While their phone and tv packages
are adequate their internet is
anything but.
While Virgin advertise that fibre
optic lines are the second coming
or something their speeds are
underwhelming. Even more
underwhelming if you go over 2GB
of downloads in their peak hours
(i.e. most of the day) when you
do this they will slash your
speed by as much as 80%. Their
reasoning behind such a move? “to
improves the speeds of other
customers in your area” I thought
fibre optic phonelines were
supposed to remove such a
problem? I can downloads a dozen
GB of data in an hour with a
provider (different property in a
city centre) still using BT’s
copper lines! Pros: high
reliability good customer service
cons: speed value
Ihave been more than impressed with the 10Mb service, speed tests are normally around 9.5Mb which compares very well to the BT service which was rubbish in comparison. The only issue is the price of broadband if you dont have a bundle..prices need to come down.
If you live in Derby do not get this service. Pings of over 100+. I did not pay £20+ for such terrible service (20MB which should be more than sufficient). Everyone i know who is with Virgin in Derby have exactly the same problem. Not acceptable
All i want is to leave virgin and get on a broadband service with someone who can supply me with uninterupted service. Not treat you like a fool.Listens to you and your concerns, and will let you leave when they are not providing what was said in the contract.
We joined Virgin in November 2009 and from the start we had nothing but trouble. We opted for the complete package of TV Phone & Broadband. They failed to move our BT number over when arranged so we had to go back to BT for 3 weeks while they sorted it out. We paid to have the broadband installed but the engineer said he wasn’t trained and couldn’t do it. It took several days talking to the helpline before it was finally installed. We had a contract for a set amount per month and all the bills came in at a hugely inflated amount. When queried they said they had lost our contract when we sent a copy they still refused to keep to it. Their bills are so complicated that you can’t understand them. We cancelled in March to go back to BT and we are still getting bills for a service we no longer have. Virgin has been a complete nightmare and it is not over yet! KEEP AWAY FROM THEM.
My experience is that Virgin Media are unable or unwilling to fulfill their orders. I have been waiting several weeks to have a telephone, broadband and TV package installed. They have delivered the quick installation pack and they say;
‘All you need to do is sign to say it’s arrived, then follow the instructions to get up and running. You’ll be enjoying your Virgin Media services in no time!’
This turns out to be untrue because you can follow the instructions to the letter but if they have not been to install the wiring and connect you, then you will be ‘running’ nowhere. Maybe you can ring them and talk to their ‘expert team’. Nope! Because if you have ordered their telephone package you will have no telephone and the free phone number does not apply to mobile telephone calls – even if you are using a Virgin mobile. So only call if you are prepared to wait in a cue and incur substantial call costs. They ask for a contact number from you when you sign up but do not expect them to use it – unless maybe it is something to do with billing because they are very efficient when it comes to setting all that up, you will get plenty of communications from them on that issue.
If you have access to email from some other source, don’t bother emailing them because they simply will not respond which suggests they are not in the position to supply installation dates because they are unable to handle orders, which is not good but the worst thing is their cowardly handling of inquiries ie simply ignore them!
If you are considering switching to Virgin Broadband, DON’T!!! I was with Virgin and I experienced no end of problems. We were left without broadband for an entire weekend and at peak times the service was extremely unreliable. Moving away from Virgin was no easy job either. They kept claiming for months that they never received the e-mail nor my letter of cancellation and in the end they send me a large cancellation bill. I moved to “BE THAT” and what a difference to Virgin! “BE THAT has so far provided a reliable service (never failed so far!) and their engineers phoned twice on the day I switched providers, to ensure that I had no difficulty connecting to their service. Now, that is what I call SERVICE! So my advice is “stay away from Virgin Broadband”!
absule rubbish i only get 80kbps at 4pm and im an online gaming cant play games onling anymore as i keep getting cut of if i cld get out off the contract and go back to bt i wld
