I spent hours and hours on the phone trying to get it sorted and received broken promise after broken promise.
However they did communicate enough to send a bill to me even though there was no service still in february! That was it for me I phoned them up again and just cancelled it then and there.
Went with another company (more expensive but we are already having much better service)

They activated it alright - straight onto a fixed 2Mbps service. NOT the “up to 8Mbps” service that was promised. I only unravelled the mystery after hours on the phone to various departments and eventually going to their cancellations team. They have now promised to enable me properly - in the middle of December. Strange, because if I put my neighbour’s postcode and telephone number in their checker they promise “9.6Mbps” line in less than 20 days…..

Hardly ever a UK callcentre and sometimes you could never even understand would the person was saying. Living alone, I now am with TalkTalk for calls, as they provide the cheapest and best value service. However, I would NOT trust them with Broadband. For there broadband they use a different software on your line at the exchange, and this works so much better, we had a 50% increase in our broadband speed and the added bonus of louder clearer voice line. To think I struggled for two years with BT, politely talking to technical, Indian and UK personnel, spending hours and hours on the phone and the tens of e-mails I have sent just to get the best service I could from BT, with the best result we never had more than 490kbs broadband, sometimes I could have wept. Like many other subscribers we were beguiled by the offer of free broadband plus unlimited free calls to any landline in the UK and selected international destinations. On signing up we quickly found out that because of our location and technical shortcomings in the local exchange we were not entitled to free broadband but instead subject to a monthly charge of £10. To add further insult the download speeds were a derisory 456kbps with frequent signal drop-out. Some two and a half years later we have just been upgraded but still download speeds at only 2.4 mbps are well below what was promised ie 8mbps. During the interim we frequently asked TT when they intended to honour their promise of free broadband only to receive evasive responses with this benefit linked to the upgrading of the local exchange. Well, this has now happened and TT instead of delivering on their promised tariff have actually increased our monthly charge by 25%!
What hacks us off is that TT had plainly no intention of honouring their original promise. Effectively we have been subsidising for over 2 years those subscribers who qualified for the free deal with fast download speeds while we paid a premium for a third-rate service. Having paid this without complaint in the vain belief that we would eventually benefit only to find that we have been shafted puts a different complexion on TT’s much-vaunted customer service and business integrity!
Had we been apprised of TT’s true intentions regarding their broadband service we would not have signed up in the first place. As for failing to come clean when repeatedly asked for clarification right up to only two months ago demonstrates a breathtaking disregard for probity. Disgraceful.
