Awful email problems

Pro: Broadband speed's ok; reasonable value f

Con: email inaccessible most of the time; bet

Over the past few months, the email service has been getting steadily worse. Nine times out of ten, when you try to log in the screen just freezes. It has proven impossible to access my email for days at a time and speaking to other talktalk customers, this is not a problem that's unique to me. This is what talktalk had to say about it: "I would like to express my sincere apologies on behalf of TalkTalk for the inconvenience and frustration this matter has caused you. Please be advised that we have been receiving quite a number of similar issues and we are gathering information to determine the cause and possible resolution. However, we still do not have an exact date as to when this would be fully fixed. Please understand that we only hold general updates regarding this known issue. I advise you to contact our Technical Support Team to further escalate this matter. In line with this, you may access your email account every now and then to check if it is working properly." I'd be more impressed with this if a) the problem hadn't been going on for months and b) their only advice is to check my email occasionally to see whether it is working! Clearly talktalk is either unwilling or (even more worrying) unable to fix this problem. My advice would be to use any other provider - even BT.

TalkTalk

Pro: Bad customer service

Con: Can't think of any

Enough is enough ,I have been with Talk -Talk for quite a few years and with AOL before that ,all was well up until a few months ago when the internet kept dropping out ,rang Talk-talk and it took about 40 minutes to find somebody to talk to ,they checked the line and informed me that there was no problem with the line but the problem continued .After 5 or 6 phone calls to there technical department I gave up and borrowed some line testing equipment and found the problem was just a high content of noise ,I then told them exactly were the fault location was and eventually got BT to fix it .but since then the speed has almost ground to a halt .On complaining they said they would send me a new router ,but as my home is networked through a 1 gigabyte switch I explained I need a router with a 1 gigabyte LAN connection ,there technical department didn't have a clue what I was talking about and sent me a 10/100 router ,which was far more inferior to the one I all ready had.. After several more phone calls I lost my rag and cancelled the service , giving a month s notice ,since then my phone doesn’t work properly and the internet is barely usable , have now gone to Virgin which I hope is going to be a lot lot quicker . With companies that give such bad customer services its a wonder how they survive ,I certainly could not recommend them to my worst enemy .

Absolute disgrace! Total shambles & should be shut down! After being with TT for 5 years now, their so called 'service' has gone downhill BIG TIME! I cannot believe a company can rip you off right infront of your eyes and you can do nothing about it. TT have lied to me, cheated me on speed and rip me off on prices. Speed & signal drop

Pro: Non

Con: they are rubbish, robbing me for a servc

Absolute rubbish, 0.22 upload speed, 0.20 download and the signal drops constantly. Email customer support and recieve a bog standard reply advising me to connect to the master socket. No change so therefore the fault must lie with Talk Talk's side of the box but I am advised I still may end up paying for an engineer to come look at it, not acceptable. I am not qualified or authorised to mess about in BT's box that is what I pay for. When I reply to the customer service agent I am then advised to go back through the Talk Talk website. So annoying but the literally have me over a barrel.

Talk Talk, wished I never renewed!!!!

Pro: You're joking!!

Con: Speed, laughable!

TALK TALK, YOU CALL 0.28mbs FAST! We are suppose to be getting at least 2 megs when we aren't even achieving close to that and you're telling me that everything is fine. I can't stream, download paying for a service that doesn't work and yet you want £200 for me to leave your company when I only renewed my contract last month! You don't go to a car showroom, buy a car and leave it there for a year because it doesn't work. Your company stinks, you should be ashamed of yourself!!!!!

Talk talk, a communication company?

Pro: Good speed, but read on....

Con: Billing, customer support is a nightmare

Talk Talk customer service = "computer say no". Worst experience ever. They took direct debits for three months when I had no phone or broadband after my ex moved out and debited her account as well for the same amounts, lost more than £300 into cyber space. Tried to bill me for exceeding download limits on a 'unlimited download' package, then the 'customer service' (I really do use this term in the loosest possible sense) said that was a shame someone at talk talk told me I had that plan but, tough. I have spent days (I mean it) on the phone to these monkeys, written letters all and taken months trying to resolve a simple problem. don't do it, go with someone else. If you're stuck with them call head UK office for help.

Used to be a good service with all the other companies that preceded Talk Talk, But I couldn't recommend this service (loosely speaking) to a demented gerbil. They should be ashamed of them selves. I am moving asap.

An impartial Review

Pro: Value for money!!!!!

Con: Customer service and billing mistakes

I definitely wouldn't give TalkTalk 5 stars, maybe 3 overall, but you really need to look at the bigger picture not just the customer service. Maybe our experience will help: We changed from virgin to talktalk and have gone from paying £30 a month for phone and broadband to £13.05 a month for 12 months (£16.30 thereafter). We are actually only paying £3.25 a month as we have paid our line rental up front, which works out at £9.80 per month. Once we were hooked up we found neglible difference in browsing speed, but my partner did notice a bit of a drop in download speed. This is something we expected and were prepared to accept for the price. The service we are receiving is more than adequate for the average household. We use the internet and download music eveyday - we are not heavy downloaders and do not download things like movies. These people may get frustrated with the service. The internet speed is dependent on your BT phoneline, so I don't see how companies such as BT or Plusnet can offer faster speeds - its physically impossible. Once set up we logged onto our first bill to see full price everything! We were shocked as we had arranged to pay line rental up front (reducing the cost from £12 to £9.80 a month) and we were supposed to be on the half price deal (£3.25 instead of £6.50). We made numerous phonecalls to correct the problem, all seemed to be going to an indian call centre, and all were of no benefit really cos they were confused. We were literally hanging up on one useless person and redialling only to be put through to another useless person. It was very frustrating. Eventually one (indian?) lady assured me that everything would be corrected on our next bill and we were happy with that. In the mean time, my grandad was also paying a lot for his phone and internet and so I decided to switch him to Talk Talk, since he only uses his phone and computer a couple of times a month. Set up over the phone was easy, I am allowed to be in control of his account, the sales team are always based in this country and know their stuff, and overall I was really pleased with the sales service. Whilst on the phone to her I asked about the problems we'd been having with our first bill, and I was given a landline london number and assured they will sort everything out. And they have! No problems now! We still haven't had my grandad's first bill yet, but I know that even if its a bit of a farce it will get sorted out eventually. Let's be honest. You get what you pay for. Their customer service situation leaves a lot to be desired but if you're vigilant and proactive you can really end up with a bargain. If you have problems ring the sales team, they are always english and can put you through to someone who will help. The number we were given if its any help to anyone is 02033028416. I've tried to be as impartial and fair as possible. I have had customer service nightmares with tons of companies, not just Talk Talk, and remember, most companies use indian call centres - BT especially!

Switched to TimeTalk.co.uk from TalkTalk

Pro: Cheap, Good Speed in 2006 - not now!

Con: Oversubscribed, Very Slow in 2012

Like anything good people will exploit it, so when TalkTalk started off it was a good service but greed has taken over and thus resulting in a poor service - far too many people using the service ! Been on TalkTalk since 2006 and have seen a good service now turn into a below average internet service (too many subscribers IMO) so I googled how to transfer from talktalk without anu hassle and free, so up popped a timetalk ad and a very attractive ad for broadband @£2.49 per month (now its £1.99 , just missed this new offer) I rang up the 0800 freephone number (08001386775) and a nice friendly UK salesperson told me of the benefits of timetalk (actually its based on the stable BT internet network!) so it will be quicker than talktalk the salesperson shaz informed me. He also informed me of no connection fees or reconnect fees, which was nice for me. The broadband download limit seems low at first but when I informed him I only check my email and a few news websites (Dailymail, Times, Sun, Mashable, FAcebook) he said I should be well below the GB limit. I even got a new internet router thingy from timetalk which is wireless n?? means a better quality / stronger wifi connection than my old talktalk router i think, will have to test my notebook in the garden. So far the internet seems pretty fast and stable (after 2.5 weeks), and shaz told me to install google chrome to make browsing faster and to clear temp internet files every few months - this does help pages load faster... So if you are fed up being on talktalk or any other popular broadband provider then i recommend trying a smaller company like timetalk who look like there internet service is not being used to the fullest so should be good broadband speeds - until thousands of people start noticing it! shhh dont tell too many people...

Terrible service

Pro: None

Con: Everything

Moved from Pipex to Talk Talk (not my choice) and been a nightmare ever since. First thing TalkTalk did was double my direct debit without notification. Next technical problems. My main issue is with the customer service, 25 mins plus on hold and then being passed from one person to another without resolution. Even trying to cancel my contract is proving difficult. They may be a few pounds cheaper but if anything goes wrong, you will regret ever being a customer with this company.

Con: Poor customer service

Did not not actually enroll with talk talk but was transfered when talk talk took over pipex. Immediate decline in service and speeds. Phoning talk talk for help is a waste of time. Finally when I arranged to end the contract in one month they cut me off immediately so that I was without broadband supply or mac code. Phoning talk talk to deal with the issue is non productive.

No Talk on Talk Talk

Pro: When lights on modem work- they pretty

Con: Slow, slow, slower, slower than that....

Please don't fall into the advertising campaign trap and go to these guys. They are useless! If they had sent a book about the internet instead of a modem, it would have been faster! Awful, awful, unless you enjoy turning off a modem, counting to ten, turning it back on, sitting down, getting back up, turning off the modem, counting to ten, turning it on. Perhaps they should run their advertising campaign along the lines of a new form of excercise in the home- like theSony Wii-but without anything coming up on the screen except "Insufficient Speed." THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME £80.00 TO LEAVE! We used to laugh naively at Pipex's awful shuntering, epileptic broadband, but these guys are definitely post mortem dead and should be shut in a very cold, dark, small, stinky-if possible- morgue!

Reliabitlity has been ok. Customer service distinctly average.

Pro: Reliable internet service

Con: Customer service could be better

By the looks of things I am one of the few customers that isn't unhappy with Talktalk. Over the two years I have had them reliablity has been ok. Once in a blue moon I might loose internet connectivity but this is gererally resolved after an hour or so. I think I've had only one outage this year. Better than what some of my friends have experienced with Virgin Media I believe. When your contract is up they will hound you to death. Though once I spoke to customer services they backed off. Setting up your account with them could be easier. I was previously with Plusnet and everything is setup automatically. With Talktalk, you must setup an account login with your own email address in order to see your details online. I strongly feel this should not be so and they should put more effort into making the customer experience a pleasent one. I've had no major problems with them and hope they perform better after the hammering they've had. Unfortunately for them they aren't the best deal at present and I am moving from them to O2 because I hear that customer service is much better. I also save a few pounds. :-)

Cancelled my order without telling me or issuing a refund

Pro: none

Con: cancelled my order without telling me

I signed up with Talk Talk, paid £114 in advance for the year and received an initial letter saying that I would be online in at most 17 days. 17 days after the date of that letter I called and (after a lot of phaffing around, due to my phone number not being recognised, one call agent just hanging up on me and 5 minutes where one call agent was trying to transfer the call but saying that the system wasn't working) got through to someone. They informed me that my order had been cancelled, apparently due to there being a cease in progress on the line. My complaint is that presumably they should have told me about this and refunded my credit card payment. I asked for my cash back and the call agent said he was sending it, but that the only way the transfer would go through if I completed the "advisory call survey" at the end of the call.

Con: Worst company in the world

TalkTalk are my worst nightmare, worse than hell. They called me about 2 months ago saying my contract had expired and did I want to renew. After a few old problems I was not sure and wanted to go to Sky, but they convinced me to stay and offered me a discount for the next 4 months. I agreed to this and signed up to a new contract. When my next bill come it did not have the discount no so I called them and they denied they ever offered me a discount!!! I had called them so many times and every time I get passed around do much I was just so sick of them I felt like I wanted to cancel the whole thing but then they said there would be cancellation fees. My friend told me about a company who go in and help get problems sorted for you, its called complaintsforyou, i phoned them and in 2 weeks I had my discount and an apology from talktalk! their number is 0800 2289041, its worth a go

Con: customer service

only recommend if you are a luck person and wont need to ever contact them. Lost internet connection ISP end. phoned customer service. 'overseas' helper didn't have a clue, reading off a trouble shooter list. Claimed my router was incompatable (the one thats been working fine for years). Told me to get a Talk Talk branded one before they could offer anymore support. Internet resumes after 1.5 weeks of own accord (engineering works finished or something). Emailed to complain about service (lack of customer/internet service)compensation. Gave me £3 as they only calculated the time since I emailed them to complain, and not since I phoned/or actual time of loss of service.

Talk Talk Broadband is a disgrace

Pro: none

Con: the service shuts down ALL the time

I have only recently joined and regret every moment. First it took you a week to provide a modem. After that the broadband keeps falling, first they changed frequency, then they changed my modem, still every day the broadband drops, today I spent 2 hours without internet and an hour on the phone with their technical team. When I called to cancel the contract the cancelation team refused to remove the cancelation charge. I am paying full price for a service they are not providing, they are in breach of contract, and I have to pay for it!

a company that only deserves Zeros

Pro: U can leave when your contracts finished

Con: Customer Support is the worst ever

I was with Talk Talk and had no end of problems the customer support is a joke as they can only work to a script. on several occasions they didn't bother reading their own notes. even if you do need to speak to a supervisor you will either be disconected or verbally abused they are so arogant that at one point that that stated only customers with an axe to grind write reviews, they should know as they have twice as many complaints as their nearest rival. I would rather boil my head than have any dealings with any of them They think its acceptable to disconect customers when there are payment issues. which would be fare if they actually bothered to contact the customer first and inform them , they send disconection letters out that won't arrive until after the disconection date, a policy their managers know about but are unwilling to do anything about it. they will blame you for faultss and threaten you with BT charges when its their own equipment at fault please save your self by finding another phone company & ISP as the only thing that you will get from TALKTALK is high blood pressure and a really big headache. Do not touch with a barge poll. avoid like the plague.

Sense of humour failure....

Pro: They're not the only provider

Con: They're appalling

Signed up to TalkTalk for 'phone and broadband with a 'go-live' date of 15th Dec. On 14th Dec the phone went dead. Multiple calls later (beware the automated system that appears designed to send you round in circles) I had made a formal complaint (or at least I thought I had) and they had promised to, 'Expedite the investigation of the fault'. Ten days later (went away in the interim), still no 'phone line. Another trip through multiple recorded messages and call centres. No record of the fault ever being logged.... They now claim to be investigating it. That's what they said last time.... Bizarrely, the broadband in is working - but at nothing like the promised speed.

Good

Pro: Fast Speeds

Con: File sharing can be slow.

Been with TalkTalk now for about 3 years and no majour problems. I've had the odd disconnection, like about once a mouth, but restart rougher and all is good. I think it's roughter to be honest as old router never had this trouble, but needed a new one as dog chewed the cables! TalkTalk was fastest Broadband I could get at the time, as BT only offered upto 8 Meg, but TalkTalk offered upto 24 Meg, at the time I signed up. I get about 12Meg connection speed, but verises with different phone lines. Download speed it always near maximum, except for Bittorent which is quite slow at peek times, but picks up in the night. Also phone service is good with free calls to landlines and TalkTalk costomers at off peek times. I also get 500mins to UK mobiles for £5. So good service and good value for all, except file shares. Who would be better looking else where, due to slow speeds on bittorent.

Con: Too many to mention

Tried to charge me for an engineer they sent out, he said my computer was full of viruses, I had just upgraded from essential Plus. After the idiot had gone I swapped the new router they had sent me ( supposed to be better) for the old one, bingo back on line . AVOID TALK TALK - TAKE HEED

Pro: FEW

Con: Slow, intermittent, broken promises

Complained within 30 day cancellation period. "We'll fix it. Give us 28 days. If not, you can leave without penalty". ALL A PACK OF LIES. Laughable speeds (29 interruptions including 5 disconnections when streaming a 40 minute 4oD program - it took 2.5 hours). Despite jumping through all their hoops there's no real improvement. And if I want to leave: "not unless you pay our fat cancellation fee (over £100). So much for their promises. And if I want to challenge them, my only choice: write in with copies of my passport / utility bills / birth certificate, pay a hefty admin fee and I can get a copy of my calls to them and can then challenge them. I used to have a life. DON'T LOOSE YOURS.

Enough is enough, so time to change...

Pro: cheapish (or was to start)

Con: Slow, poor service, broken promises

I knew it was coming, when it wasn't connected on time, router never arrived, (had to buy my own to get connected) they missed first appointment for installation etc, further phone calls and holidays taken to be present. Had to get it up and running on my own. Connection speed was crap from start 2.5 Mb of the 6+ Mb promised, and has steadily got worse Now 0.4 Mb virtually un-usable, & the upload is slightly faster, I'll be out first chance I get. was with BT for many year who provided a faultless service 5+ Mb average, but when I moved I though about using a cheaper supplier, & oh boy was I wrong.

TalkTalk is by far the worst provider

Pro: nothing at all

Con: evrything you can think of

Go live date missed by several weeks, so i cancelled. TalkTalk refused to take my cancellation by phone. Customer service is inept and the worst i've come accross, worse even than VirginMedia. Even after fianlly acknowledging the cancellation, they send me a bill for the next month rental! And after assuring me there will be no charges as they provided no service they still try and bill me for rental and a call i could not and never did make! Stay clear. BT is more expensive but I must admit it has always been smooth dealing with them in comparison to the awful service at TalkTalk.

I am leaving Talk Talk purely because of the utterly useless customer support. I would give 0 star if allowed! If you never need customer support and never have a problem then I guess they will do. On hold for 40 mins. Tech guy could barely speak english. Tried 3 times finally got english tech guy but he didnt have a clue on how to resolve my e mail prob. Also if you have an issue with a smart phone, ie e mails etc. They wont help, even if its clear its a server prob. Thier policy is not to help on smart phone issues. I originally joined Tiscali so I ended up with Talk Talk by default!

But they were able from "their end" to get it to 2.8, of the upto 24M they advertise, for a couple of weeks then it drops back. They talk the talk, but cannot provide an acceptable service. What can I say...We were duped onto a rolling contract with BT many years ago. When I signed up to TalkTalk online a few weeks ago I was informed almost immediately over the phone by a very curt BT rep that I'd have to pay out £94 in compensation if I didn't cancel the deal. I rang TalkTalk. They said they'd give me a £70 credit to make up for BT's bad manners, AND THEY HAVE!!! On top of that my broadband is faster, and in spite of the £24 extra over I'll have to shell out to BT, I'll still be better off by at least £100 over the next 12 months. I admit I was very worried about switching. There are so many rumours about BT owning the lines and other companies having problems getting faults fixed. But switching has turned out to be the best thing I could have done. Go TalkTalk. 5*

Had a problem with my broadband and I was amazed at the brilliant service by TalkTalk. Prompt answer to call; call centre staff articulate and bright communicators, fixed the problem, polite, patience and helpful throughout. Nearly fell off my chair with this service level - have been waiting a long time for an organisation to get it right! And they have a 3-question feedback survey after to check how the operator performed. In my case, 3 'Excellents'. Well done talktalk.. will recommend you all round.

TalkTalk overcharged me for 6 months when I downgraded my package when the price went up. Customer service is incompetent. I didn't want the TV service when they put the price up, they removed the equipment but continued to charge me for it. Repeated lengthy phone calls (up to an hour), being pushed from dept to dept, promises to put it right repeatedly made but not kept. At one point they refunded the overcharge to date, but still kept overcharging. I eventually got the overcharge refunded in full, but it took 6 months. Useless. All went wrong when they took over Tiscali, which is who I'd joined in the first place.

I have been with Talktalk Business broadband and call package since 2007 and to be honest it has been an absolute nightmare with regular outages and billing issues taking up lots of valuable business time. I too would have given them a zero if there was an option as they have nearly cost me my business. Whats worse is that when you try to move away from them it gets worse. You are then notified of a huge get out charge (£300) due to a supposedly rolling contract that no one has been told about. Apparently it is a verbal contract made over the telephone when you first join. It was funny though that they could not provide a copy of the telephone conversation as they only keep copies for 6 months. They said if I refused to pay it they would refer my business to a debt collection agency which could destroy my business credit ratings. This is totally wrong and basically is another form of blackmail. Talktalk almost cost me my business and now I have to pay for the privledge of them doing so. My advise is if you rely on your broadband for your business steer well clear of Talktalk.

During the morning/early afternoon it's useable, though still not up to the quoted speeds at any point (I know quoted speeds are supposed to be a 'maximum', but my service has never even come close to reaching them in over a year). However, as soon as peak times hit, from about 5pm-11pm it's like having dial up all over again. Stay away, whatever's going on at the provider end they're skimping on something. This is the worst broadband I've ever experienced and isn't even up to scratch for browsing websites, let alone watching video or trying to play games.

Talk talk took them over and I received a mailshot stating THEY were upgrading the service to upto 8mb and it would go up in price to 14.99. No mention of minimum contracts or any change to existing terms. I am not getting anywhere near 8mb and am trying to close my Broadband account, but they are threatening to charge over £200 'early cancellation' fee as they say I started a new contract in July 2010. This 'contract' is entirely fictional as at no point did I have any conversation with anyone from Talk Talk Tiscali about any change or upgrade of contract. Avoid TalkTalk like the plague! Since switching from AOL my speed has been lower and it drops out for no reason, sometimes for hours at a time, at least once or twice a week. The call centre staff are polite but no real help, and that is after you have spent ages hanging on the line listening to a song about a Neon Rainbow which could drive you over the edge. I am looking for a new provider but am reading customer reviews VERY carefully this time around. Talktalk is cheap but the appalling service and unreliable boroadband connection make them a false economy.

Contacted Talktalk who made me jump through some hoops, but eventually admitted I was connected to a very slow and congested line. They promised to unbundle the exchange a gave me a date. Within a day or so of the due date, my linespeed went up to 7.5mbps. They kept me informed of progress and gave very good service overall. Line reliability has been excellent with few or no interruptions to service. If I switch the modem off, it reconnects within seconds. What more could I ask for.

Below is the email I sent to TalkTalk after switching to BT. Having recently switched to another supplier, I am outraged to have received two separate letters and a postcard indicating that I may be liable to a termination fee of £300!! Our account was originally set up with Pipex and was a rolling monthly contract. The letters were also received after the switchover was in hand, which makes the threat of the termination fee even more distressing. Having spoken to your "Termination Team" this morning, I am assured that the correspondence was sent in error (three times??!!) and that no termination fee will be charged. Although the issue is settled, I am sending this email to tell you that I consider your business practices to be appalling.

I am another poor Tiscali customer who has had their contract changed to Talk Talk about 3 weeks ago. Since then my broadband speed has become incredibly variable. Sometimes I get the 2MB that I had consistently from Tiscali but most of the time it is barely 0.5MB. The call centre in India have been useless, promising callbacks which never happen. I have been on the phone for hours trying to sort the problem. I have written to the Chief Executive of TALK TALK Group but do not expect a reply. How can a company survive with such terrible customer service?

Talk Talk are the pits. I phoned them last week to give them the opportunity to put a numbers of issues right and the girl put the phone down on me. Also if you get a problem you go through to an off shore call centre, and believe me that is one experience I wouldn't wish on anyone total utter rubbish....avoid at all costs...and there will be costs!

What can i say about this joke of an ISP. I am with Pipex which have been bought by Talk Talk. All was fine till about 2 months ago when my speeds in the evening dropped to below 200 kbps from the usual 7mbps i used to recieve. Got in contact with their customer service who were absoulutely useless. PLEASE AVOID Talk Talk, they are a joke. I would give no stars, but there is no option for that.

Utter rubbish, I was a Tiscali user and they migrated me accross to TalkTalk. Started having connection problems where the line would drop out for hours each day with no service. Reported to customer service and theywere very polite as Indian call centres are but useless. Each and everytime I complained they went through the process of setting up my gateway yet again. Only now when I have obtained my MAC do they want to sell me a faster cheaper service. Finally found out the problem was with BT changing equipment at the exchange, funny how TalkTalk couldn't work that out. Still bad speeds of between 350 kbps and 600 kbps on an 8 mg adsl. Avoid like the plague.

Life's Too Short For Talk Talk

I transferred to Talk Talk from BT. Despite 1571 voice mail being part of the service. They failed to provide it. I rang customer services on 3 occasions and after waiting over 10 minutes on each occasion the call was answered by a South African call centre who couldnt resolve it. After 3 weeks and total frustration Talk Talk are trying to charge me a £70-00 disconnection fee. Avoid Talk Talk at all costs. There are better providers with a far better customer services operation at a similar cost like Hive.

TalkTalk Broadband Review

Talk Talk Broadband - Appalling service, utterly dreadful. I moved house 2 months ago, it took 1 month & to connect the phone, & 2 months later & I still have no broadband. Every few days I call up to ask some clueless bloke reading off a prompt card why I'm not connected yet on the date they promised, & they give me a new date 2 weeks later. Lost count of the no. of days wasted, staying in waiting for the package to arrive, only to find they have moved back the install date without telling me. Furthermore, I am told I have no grounds for disputing the bill as the broadband is classified as 'free'. Give me paid for broadband, if it works! One last irony - the 'cooling off' period where you have 30 days to back out of the 24 month contract if you are not happy with the service - has already expired before the broadband is even available. So I am locked in to this **** for 2 years.

It is not always the ISP's fault. I used a router for a while and experienced frequent loss of connection. So I returned to my faithful Speedtouch modem. It works perfectly, never a dropout and modest speed(3.5Mps) suitable for average surfing. Talktalk is brilliant value with 24/7 phone so perhaps all the moaners should check their hardware first.

this is the worst broadband i had (i used before 2 other providers) DO NOT SIGN IN!! the best advise is to stay away from them. One day i had normal speed connection (2MB - i have been advised by email that it is actually 8MB) and next day i had 1MB download and 25KB upload! (just like that) i can't use it for anything, probably just for emails. Customer service is even worst. I logged a ticked on their site to check it - i had response, after 2 months!! that i need to switch to higher plan (for extra charge) to have up to 8MB speed (but i sign in at the beginning for 8MB!!) ridiculous!! I AM OUT !! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!

After 9 days TalkTalk haven't done anything to fix the problem and don't seem to really care. 1st line support are very polite but totally useless and 2nd line support won't call you back. TalkTalk Broadband Review

I'm puzzled how this ISP collects any 5 star ratings. Years ago and with huge relief I managed to escape from the Orange/Wannadoo mess and promised myself "Never Ever Again". Went to IDNet and Zen and had 4 years of solid, uninterrupted, Broadband. Speeds a consistent 5Mbps, supplied 365/24. Zero contact with the providers, just paid the bill each month. Now (fatally!) lulled into a false sense of security and after a number of seemingly positive "reviews", come this Feb' I took up TalkTalk's cheap phone/Broadband package. Eight days later, I knew I'd unwittingly stepped into more Orange coloured poo and history was repeating itself. Come March I'm out and desperately awaiting BT re-owning the phone line.(sadly, TalkTalk is 'LLU', meaning a £50 charge to return to a normal ISP). Speed: Deplorable. Lucky to average 500kbps. Forget YouTube, Flash, Replayers, Ebay, gaming and PDFs beyond 5Mbyte. (NB, be wary of their speedtester as it seems 'shaped' to give +30% at the 2Mbps mark) Reliability: Non-existant. ISP Server drops the phone line every few minutes. Data rates constantly stutter and drop to 0bps and then hang. 10kbytes of newsgroup text may take 10 minutes or never to download. Support: Innefectual. The poor staff are unfailingy polite and courteous but have the impossible task of trying to defend the indefensible. No amount of their twiddling with technical 'line profiles' or truly heroic adventures in fault reasoning, is allowed to eat into the fixed line crippling. Value for Money: Bad. In isolation the service cost is attractive but that assumes some kind of service. TalkTalk cripples the line data rates sufficient to generate the particularly large profits that they want. This crippling is far more than normal ISPs and as the owner now demands another 30% rise in profits, then the crippling must worsen pro-rata.

Terrible ISP, I'm an old Tiscali customer and since Tiscali got bought out by TalkTalk my service has gone for the worse, price has increased by £3, got a monthly download limit and because I originally signed up with Tiscali I'm unable to get services that original TalkTalk members can, such as ADSL 2+, my line is limited to 8mb whereas they can get up to 24mb speeds, can't use the Broadband Boosts, the TalkTalk Members forum etc. All this even though they say they've aligned Tiscali into the TalkTalk Group, this isn't a group, the only thing they've aligned is the price increase, there are no benefits for us old Tiscali members.

TalkTalk Broadband (or lack of) Review

If you actually want to get broadband don't go with TalkTalk. I ordered broadband and phoneline with talktalk in november. Since then we have had missed appointments, almost no communication of any sort and 4 different go live dates all of which failed and passed by without any notification let alone an apology. I spent hours and hours on the phone trying to get it sorted and received broken promise after broken promise. However they did communicate enough to send a bill to me even though there was no service still in february! That was it for me I phoned them up again and just cancelled it then and there. Went with another company (more expensive but we are already having much better service) You get what you pay for! Stay Away!!

TalkTalk tossers (previously Tiscali) I only put one star because I can't seem to choose 0 stars; these cowboys are rip off merchants - I moved house so they sent letters to my old flat (which I obviously didn't receive) informing them I owed them one months service despite the BT line being disconnected when I moved out then sold the debt on to a debt recovery agency who more than doubled the amount owed with 'fees'. Complete rip off merchants, I'm really annoyed with them so thought I'd share my experiences with everyone out there - if you're choosing a broadband provider please choose someone else, there are much better deals out there at a higher speed connection.

unacceptable behaviour

I joined TalkTalk in November 2009 as their telephone/broadband package seemed to be cheaper and set up a direct debit. Yesterday (7/1/10) I found my broadband and telephone had been disconnected: when I phoned TalkTalk they said they disconnected me because my first due direct debit payment had failed “though now it was OK and I did not need to give them again my bank details”. I am sure I gave them my correct bank details and I can prove I have always had a more than adequate balance. I paid by card over the phone anyway as requested but it took 24 hours to be reconnected: this completely ruined my day of work from home. I think it is not acceptable to disconnect a utility customer without first contacting him by post or e-mail or phone-call. I have not been given any explanation yet.

For three and a half months I have been trying to get my broadband connected. In that period I must have spent almost two solid days on the phone trying to resolve issues. TT have called me once in that entire time. I have received 6 separate go-live dates. There is no continuity within "customer services". No one know what is going on. No one can transfer you to someone else and I now know more about their systems and technical capabilities than the entire TT call centre staff. I signed up to Talk Talk having heard promises of "better speed and reliability than BT". The line was taken over in October. We were due to have broadband activated this week. They activated it alright - straight onto a fixed 2Mbps service. NOT the "up to 8Mbps" service that was promised. I only unravelled the mystery after hours on the phone to various departments and eventually going to their cancellations team. They have now promised to enable me properly - in the middle of December. Strange, because if I put my neighbour's postcode and telephone number in their checker they promise "9.6Mbps" line in less than 20 days..... Talk Talk lie. Be very very careful.

I am having problems right from the outset. I switched after their salesmen kept pestering me and sweet talked me into their unbelievable offers (I was already having problems with Tiscali) and that the switch would be seamless with me not even noticing, which would all happen in two weeks time. However, its been more than a month now and now they have started to show their true colors-arrogant, defiant, rude, laid back and irresponsible, plus they also have an attitude. So far no router (maybe becoz of the postal strike), no broadband, they took over the phone line within two weeks. Now they tell me that (after 5 weeks of waiting) that the demand for theirs is too high and so they only placed my order today and will take another 14 working days. And now that the initial 14 day cooling period is over they have got me locked in and won't stick to their promise. Please be aware of their ruthless salesmen who lock you into switching and once you have, they don't really care.

We've had talktalk now for just over a year. I can honestly say that we have had no problems with the phone line or broadband whatsoever. Both phone and broadband was activated on the day they said and we only pay just under £25 a month for unlimited calls and broadband. On last check, the download speed was 7.1 Mbs and upload was just under one meg. We live one mile from the exchange. They have a forum on their website which members can use for queries and advice so those who have problems contactiong customer support (though I have contacted them without a problem) could try useing. I give them full marks.

I have never been a paying TalkTalk Broadband customer, but have lived in a household receiving the service so am fully aware of how they opperate. Speeds are absolutely disgusting. Never got anywhere near the promised speed. Connection would drop constantly. Speeds would vary each time the Internet conected and would never really exceed 1.5meg. Customer service is horrid. Hardly ever a UK callcentre and sometimes you could never even understand would the person was saying. Living alone, I now am with TalkTalk for calls, as they provide the cheapest and best value service. However, I would NOT trust them with Broadband. There are plenty of cheaper, better value ISPs out there (for example, O2 Broadband who I'm currently with).

I've been a Talktalk customer for several years now, and I have to say I've been very satisfied with the service. Can't fault it on value-for-money grounds - I'm paying typically £25 amonth for phone and broadband, about the same as BT were charging for phone only. My broadband from AOL used to be another £15 amonth on top - and AOL was frankly crap. (Ironic that CPW now own AOL). If you have a struggling broadband service or would like a cheaper service than BT, then consider TalkTalk. For there broadband they use a different software on your line at the exchange, and this works so much better, we had a 50% increase in our broadband speed and the added bonus of louder clearer voice line. To think I struggled for two years with BT, politely talking to technical, Indian and UK personnel, spending hours and hours on the phone and the tens of e-mails I have sent just to get the best service I could from BT, with the best result we never had more than 490kbs broadband, sometimes I could have wept. So yes I think the TalkTalk service is excellent.

Like many other subscribers we were beguiled by the offer of free broadband plus unlimited free calls to any landline in the UK and selected international destinations. On signing up we quickly found out that because of our location and technical shortcomings in the local exchange we were not entitled to free broadband but instead subject to a monthly charge of £10. To add further insult the download speeds were a derisory 456kbps with frequent signal drop-out. Some two and a half years later we have just been upgraded but still download speeds at only 2.4 mbps are well below what was promised ie 8mbps. During the interim we frequently asked TT when they intended to honour their promise of free broadband only to receive evasive responses with this benefit linked to the upgrading of the local exchange. Well, this has now happened and TT instead of delivering on their promised tariff have actually increased our monthly charge by 25%! What hacks us off is that TT had plainly no intention of honouring their original promise. Effectively we have been subsidising for over 2 years those subscribers who qualified for the free deal with fast download speeds while we paid a premium for a third-rate service. Having paid this without complaint in the vain belief that we would eventually benefit only to find that we have been shafted puts a different complexion on TT's much-vaunted customer service and business integrity! Had we been apprised of TT's true intentions regarding their broadband service we would not have signed up in the first place. As for failing to come clean when repeatedly asked for clarification right up to only two months ago demonstrates a breathtaking disregard for probity. Disgraceful.

Cross TalkTalk customer

The set up took forever and was one problem after another and it's not got much better since. My broadband runs at a about 2Mb which is no where near the 8Mb I see them advertising. Annoying and frustrating.

Great talktalk

Tried Talktalk 2 years ago and cancelled in 1 month. Now tried again and the service has been great. Line speed averages 4.5mb this is far better than BT provided and the cost is low copared to BT. Communication from TT was spot on and they connected on the day they said they would.

Great Value

Great value for money. I have saved £15 a month switching from BT to TalkTalk. I'm getting an average of 3mb now, where as with BT I was struggling to get 2mb! No complaints from me.

Getting Better

I was never a big TalkTalk fan but the speeds and customer service have improved. It's still not great but is a step in the right direction. Not sure if I'll stay with TalkTalk or not.
