Terrible ISP, I’m an old Tiscali customer and since Tiscali got bought out by TalkTalk my service has gone for the worse, price has increased by £3, got a monthly download limit and because I originally signed up with Tiscali I’m unable to get services that original TalkTalk members can, such as ADSL 2+, my line is limited to 8mb whereas they can get up to 24mb speeds, can’t use the Broadband Boosts, the TalkTalk Members forum etc. All this even though they say they’ve aligned Tiscali into the TalkTalk Group, this isn’t a group, the only thing they’ve aligned is the price increase, there are no benefits for us old Tiscali members.

If you actually want to get broadband don’t go with TalkTalk.
I ordered broadband and phoneline with talktalk in november. Since then we have had missed appointments, almost no communication of any sort and 4 different go live dates all of which failed and passed by without any notification let alone an apology. I spent hours and hours on the phone trying to get it sorted and received broken promise after broken promise.

However they did communicate enough to send a bill to me even though there was no service still in february! That was it for me I phoned them up again and just cancelled it then and there.

Went with another company (more expensive but we are already having much better service)

You get what you pay for! Stay Away!!

TalkTalk tossers (previously Tiscali) I only put one star because I can’t seem to choose 0 stars; these cowboys are rip off merchants - I moved house so they sent letters to my old flat (which I obviously didn’t receive) informing them I owed them one months service despite the BT line being disconnected when I moved out then sold the debt on to a debt recovery agency who more than doubled the amount owed with ‘fees’. Complete rip off merchants, I’m really annoyed with them so thought I’d share my experiences with everyone out there - if you’re choosing a broadband provider please choose someone else, there are much better deals out there at a higher speed connection.

Good speed, Very reliable. If you have any problems whatsoever though you will be crying. Last weekend I upgraded to their Pro Plan but a week later it hadn’t been upgraded even though I am now paying for it. I’ve spent 3 days being transferred backwards and forwards with nobody knowing what they are doing. 2 of the prople had never heard of Windows 7! In total I have spent 6 hours on hold with an average of an hour on hold before you get to talk to someone. They may provide a cheap fast service but they don’t care about their cutomers at all

I joined TalkTalk in November 2009 as
    their telephone/broadband package
seemed to be cheaper and set up a
    direct debit.
Yesterday (7/1/10) I found my broadband
    and telephone had been disconnected:
when I phoned TalkTalk they said they
disconnected me because my first due
direct debit payment had failed “though
now it was OK and I did not need to
give them again my bank details”. I am
sure I gave them my correct bank
details and I can prove I have always
had a more than adequate balance. I
paid by card over the phone anyway as
requested but it took 24 hours to be
    reconnected: this completely ruined my
day of work from home. I think it is
not acceptable to disconnect a utility
    customer without first contacting him
by post or e-mail or phone-call. I have
not been given any explanation yet.

For three and a half months I have been trying to get my broadband connected. In that period I must have spent almost two solid days on the phone trying to resolve issues. TT have called me once in that entire time. I have received 6 separate go-live dates. There is no continuity within “customer services”. No one know what is going on. No one can transfer you to someone else and I now know more about their systems and technical capabilities than the entire TT call centre staff. Never have I met a more useless organisation in my life. I wouldn’t wish the experience on my worst enemy. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS RABBLE.

I signed up to Talk Talk having heard promises of “better speed and reliability than BT”. The line was taken over in October. We were due to have broadband activated this week. They activated it alright - straight onto a fixed 2Mbps service. NOT the “up to 8Mbps” service that was promised. I only unravelled the mystery after hours on the phone to various departments and eventually going to their cancellations team. They have now promised to enable me properly - in the middle of December. Strange, because if I put my neighbour’s postcode and telephone number in their checker they promise “9.6Mbps” line in less than 20 days…..

Talk Talk lie. Be very very careful.

I am having problems right from the outset. I switched after their salesmen kept pestering me and sweet talked me into their unbelievable offers (I was already having problems with Tiscali) and that the switch would be seamless with me not even noticing, which would all happen in two weeks time. However, its been more than a month now and now they have started to show their true colors-arrogant, defiant, rude, laid back and irresponsible, plus they also have an attitude. So far no router (maybe becoz of the postal strike), no broadband, they took over the phone line within two weeks. Now they tell me that (after 5 weeks of waiting) that the demand for theirs is too high and so they only placed my order today and will take another 14 working days. And now that the initial 14 day cooling period is over they have got me locked in and won’t stick to their promise. Please be aware of their ruthless salesmen who lock you into switching and once you have, they don’t really care.

We’ve had talktalk now for just over a year. I can honestly say that we have had no problems with the phone line or broadband whatsoever. Both phone and broadband was activated on the day they said and we only pay just under £25 a month for unlimited calls and broadband. On last check, the download speed was 7.1 Mbs and upload was just under one meg. We live one mile from the exchange. They have a forum on their website which members can use for queries and advice so those who have problems contactiong customer support (though I have contacted them without a problem) could try useing. I give them full marks.

I have never been a paying TalkTalk Broadband customer, but have lived in a household receiving the service so am fully aware of how they opperate. Speeds are absolutely disgusting. Never got anywhere near the promised speed. Connection would drop constantly. Speeds would vary each time the Internet conected and would never really exceed 1.5meg. Customer service is horrid. Hardly ever a UK callcentre and sometimes you could never even understand would the person was saying. Living alone, I now am with TalkTalk for calls, as they provide the cheapest and best value service. However, I would NOT trust them with Broadband. There are plenty of cheaper, better value ISPs out there (for example, O2 Broadband who I’m currently with).

I’ve been a Talktalk customer for several years now, and I have to say I’ve been very satisfied with the service. Can’t fault it on value-for-money grounds - I’m paying typically £25 amonth for phone and broadband, about the same as BT were charging for phone only. My broadband from AOL used to be another £15 amonth on top - and AOL was frankly crap. (Ironic that CPW now own AOL). I’ll stay with Talktalk till cable arrives in my area - which is apparently never.

If you have a struggling broadband service or would like a cheaper service than BT, then consider TalkTalk. For there broadband they use a different software on your line at the exchange, and this works so much better, we had a 50% increase in our broadband speed and the added bonus of louder clearer voice line. To think I struggled for two years with BT, politely talking to technical, Indian and UK personnel, spending hours and hours on the phone and the tens of e-mails I have sent just to get the best service I could from BT, with the best result we never had more than 490kbs broadband, sometimes I could have wept. So yes I think the TalkTalk service is excellent.

Like many other subscribers we were beguiled by the offer of free broadband plus unlimited free calls to any landline in the UK and selected international destinations. On signing up we quickly found out that because of our location and technical shortcomings in the local exchange we were not entitled to free broadband but instead subject to a monthly charge of £10. To add further insult the download speeds were a derisory 456kbps with frequent signal drop-out. Some two and a half years later we have just been upgraded but still download speeds at only 2.4 mbps are well below what was promised ie 8mbps. During the interim we frequently asked TT when they intended to honour their promise of free broadband only to receive evasive responses with this benefit linked to the upgrading of the local exchange. Well, this has now happened and TT instead of delivering on their promised tariff have actually increased our monthly charge by 25%!

What hacks us off is that TT had plainly no intention of honouring their original promise. Effectively we have been subsidising for over 2 years those subscribers who qualified for the free deal with fast download speeds while we paid a premium for a third-rate service. Having paid this without complaint in the vain belief that we would eventually benefit only to find that we have been shafted puts a different complexion on TT’s much-vaunted customer service and business integrity!

Had we been apprised of TT’s true intentions regarding their broadband service we would not have signed up in the first place. As for failing to come clean when repeatedly asked for clarification right up to only two months ago demonstrates a breathtaking disregard for probity. Disgraceful.
