Orange has changed

Pro: Fast Broadband reliable service

Con: Possible fair usage

I thought I would update other comments made on this review site as I went across to Orange a month ago and they nearly put me off. There has been a big change since the amalgamation into EE. They have introduced a new router called a bright box that is child’s play to install, a delight to use (it even has MAC code access) and has proven to be solid. Wi-fi coverage is excellent too and fast. I have spoken to their customer services on 3 occasions now and the longest I had to wait was 10 minutes, the other two times I was speaking to someone within a minute or so. The router did not get to me in time for the start of my new broadband service and someone in EE forgot to put my order through for the phone line, but customer services responded by getting the router to me the following day and generous credits for the inconvenience. They clearly have a new culture very aware of past mistakes and they are going out of their way to make the customer happy. However, one point I cannot comment on is their fair usage policy and how that might kick in as I do not download 10s of gigabytes of films. Some of the other comments about slow speeds could be related to this as it is called throttling, but most ISPs do this at some point if you download a lot.

They do not like their customers

Pro: none spring to mind

Con: Customer service

Customer service is awful. They currently have problems answering emails and I cannot get through on the phone. I waited for 37 minutes (at 5p a minute) before giving up. We cancelled our broadband with them 2 months ago, but this does not seem to have got into their system and they are now complaining that our direct debit was cancelled. Not surprisingly, the email telling us the direct debit was invalid did not accept replies. They really do not like their customers at all.

A colour to avoid - Orange

Pro: There are other companies

Con: Customer service very poor

I initially signed up with Orange for home phone and broadband but within the 7 day period as stipulated in the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) 2000 Act I cooled off and cancelled the service. I packaged up their equipment and returned it to them registered post at my expense. Orange have responded by trying to extort £104.04 from me as the service worked for a massive 6 hours before it failed. I in response are refusing to pay this absurd charge and am invoicing Orange for my time spent responding to them. I will next be making a complaint to CISAS (Ofcom) and beyond that I will make a county court claim against them for the payment of my invoices (currently £150.00). Through the dealings I have had with Orange technical department and particularly Orange customer service I personally will never again deal with Orange or EE or any company with any affiliation whatsoever to Orange UK. I urge other members of this site to exercise extreme caution before engaging into any sort of contract with this truly woeful company.

FALSE DATA USAGE

Pro: NONE

Con: charged for impossible amounts of usage

I have a dongle, I live on a boat so being so low down on the water my speed is of course very very slow. I have a 3gb data package and I am charged an extra 24.66 each month for over usage. they suggest i use 9,5 gb every month. My pc speed test suggests 1.95mbps. times that by 2592000 (seconds in 30 days) = 5.05gb per month. even at 3.6mbps = 9.33gb. thats downloading at those speeds for every second of every hour of every day for 30 days, I obviously don't sleep. My pc data usage suggests I have used 7 gb since may this year. Or roughly 1 gb per month. Orange just fob me off. It is physically IMPOSSIBLE for me to download that amount of data, I never watch films or listen to music,,,basically facebook, dating sites and maybe one youtube video a month...If I dont get my money back, I will be taking them to court. I will not be recommending Orange to ANYONE. I have been a customer since my very first mobile phone and im now 46.

Feel Totally let down!!

Pro: Nothing

Con: not trustworthy and unreliable

I have been with Orange since they took over from Wanadoo and they had provided me with free broadband and a second 0845 landline number as I took out a pay monthly package with my mobile. Several years on they have decided to do away with providing customers with a 0845 number...what does this mean to me???? A dramatic loss of income as I now have to change everything from stationary, websites, links, youtube clips..all advertising!!!! No point in trying to get any reason or sympathy..they're like robots and are NOT interested....absolutely NO compassion or reasoning...feel totally let down after all those years as a loyal customer.

Orange Broadband

Pro: Do they have any?

Con: Customer Services are a joke.

Well, I am now on my second major loss of service from Orange. The first time took several weeks before a BT engineer was dispatched to fix the issue. I now have a second issue where I have upgrade the firmware of their Netgear router as they advised which has killed my access to the internet. I am now lest with no connection at all. Their tech guys are useless just reading from scripts in India. I then spoke to their cancellation service that just wanted me to sign a longer contract to get a replacement router. I have now requested a MAC code ( incurring a cost to end my contract early) to try yet another service provider. If you like good customer service, don't pick Orange.

Con: were to start....

worst internet ever, very very very poor wireless signal even if im sat next to router, disconnects my self if another user logs on to there pc/console, customer support useless just say try doing this n that = never works, and can't cancel subscription unless i pay remainder of months payments....and they wont upgrade router or change speed for the price they charge Would never wish Orange Broadband upon anyone even if it was the only Broadband provider- just as slow as dial up

Orange Broadband & calls

Pro: hmm, I like the colour.

Con: everything else!

I change the broadband and phone to them whilst upgrading my phone. Whilst I was waiting a week for the MAC code to come through I was hounded up to 3 times a day, everyday by them asking if it had arrived . The broad band speed was horrifically slow. So much so that I practically stopped using the internet at home because you couldn't get anything done and was intensly fustrating. Loading basic searches from google could take up to 5 mins. A five min clip in you tube would take ~30 mins. I called their call centre who said it would take a little while for the line to settle -funnily enough the amount of time it needed would take me out of the 14 day cancellation period - Fancy that! A month or so later when it was still snail speed I phoned up and all they did was suggest I change the password settings which quite obviously did nothing. Though this wasnt their worst trick. After beginning the contract in October I recieved a letter from my previous phone line supplier in february, demanding over £120 for the same time period. After speaking to them it became apparent Orange hadn't requested the line and so I was paying for two services. This was 5 months into the Orange contract and as I only got billed quaterly by my previous supplier I had not known. I went from o2 to orange, big mistake!

EXTREMELY POOR BROADBAND SPEED

Pro: The colour

Con: Speeds typically less than 1meg

After enduring a totally appalling lack of broadband speed over the last year, I am looking for another provider. They have sent me four modems, had the master socket replaced, and caused me to spend literally hours calling them to resolve the almost continuously, extremely poor speeds. They still haven't resolved the noise on the landline either, which only goes if you turn the modem off - what use is that?! I have just discovered that it is all orange equipment that delivers the broadband over the BT line, which obvioulsy is not up to the job! To be concise - GO ELSE WHERE!

Con: Broadband crap

APPALLING DISREGARD FOR CUSTOMERS

Pro: NONE WHATSOEVER

Con: LACK OF RESPECT, SHODDY SERVICE

Sadly I inherited Orange when they took over FSNET some years ago & I should have switched ages ago, I have had nothing but problems - no response to complaints, unable to access my email account for days on end and loss of internet. I have written/emailed them so many times but it takes them days to do anything forcing you on to their telephone system where you can spend the best part of an hour. The Indian techies try hard but many have a poor grasp of English leading to frustration at both ends of the line. They can only tell you what they have been told and this doesn't usually tally with what the UK says. It appears Orange has ongoing server problems that they try not to admit to & I was told by one of their people that since taking over FSNET and others they have more subscribers than the system can cope with. When I wrote to the the CEO because I was getting little raction from customer 'disservices' I had a reply from the department that stated 'The CEO doesn't deal with customers'. I found this incredible but it sums up the attitude of the company. If it is like this at the top then it filters down! I raised a summons to get compensation and they eventually settled after realising I intended taking them to court for compensation for the time and money it had cost me trying to get some reaction from them. Now they know I am moving my Broadband & mobile accounts they expect me to pay for any remaining contract. Let them try!

orange monkeys

Pro: they have a cool name

Con: they have crap broadband

Had two months of hell with these monkeys pretending to be broadband providers, speed was slowest ever of any of the five providers i've had (even aol!). Some devices wouldn't even connect, HTC desire, wiii, a laptop!?? Throttling becomes a real problem as utorrent tops out at a less than awesome 5kb/s at peak. The poor tech on the phone will only scratch his head and tell you he can't understand it, because he's not allowed to say 'look mate. orange broadband is s**t.'

Penny Nottingham

Pro: There are none!

Con: Slow system, email service ATROCIOUS!

Orange PROMISED me that they'd either fulfil their promises or refund my money. In fact, they did neither. The service is slow and sluggish, but the WORST THING is that they've been having problems with email and didn't admit to it for MONTHS! Other servers (AoL and Hotmail, for eg) are blocking emails sent BY and TO Orange users, but since no error message is sent out to that effect, nobody knows about it! I was WEEKS wondering why people weren't receiving my emails, then I wasted a further several weeks phoning their 'Helpline' (??!!) to try get to the bottom of the problem. EVENTUALLY, they admitted what the fault is and then for long enough, kept assuring me they were sorting the problem. I ended up using an old Gmail address and my email service would be restored in a very short time. I got sick of waiting, after so long. As far as I know, Orange STILL haven't sorted their problems. OFCOM said there was nothing they could do, because email is an EXTRA to broadband packages; and I'm imprisoned in an 18 month contract which I'd have to pay £250 to get out of! AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!

Pro: umm

Con: Internet is very very very slow

Internet is super slow. My 3rd party email addresses don't work and when you call orange to sort it out, you sit on hold for ages until someone from Delhi answers - they don't understand you and you dont understand them But not being able to use my email addresses means that my company loses money because I cant email people and they cant email me. Great when you are at work

Pro: Cheap

Con: Useless after 6pm

I went over to Orange as I was given a good deal for having an Orange Mobile. As my phone service had always been very good I assumed the Broadband would be also. Well I was wrong I went from 14mbps on O2 to less than 1mbps with Orange after 6pm. I could get up to 6mbps prior to 6pm but as I didn't get in from work until then that was useless to me. I couldn't stream anything from bbc iplayer or internet tv. I was not a heavy user and was not capped (apparently). After struggling for a year I decided to pay the £67 to get shut of them and I am now on sky getting over 12mbps at all times and paying less as I am sky tv customer and I was given 6 months free which covered my buyout from Orange. Do not waste your money with Orange Broadband they are shocking.

Con: Customer service, speed, reliability

There is absolutely nothing positive I can say about Orange broadband. They are truely terrible - extremely slow and dreadful customer services. The only slight positive is they are initially cheap - but I suppose that's only a plus if you're never actually going to need to use the internet.

Con: Cheap for a reason.

Me and my two friends from uni moved into our house roughly two months ago. A few days after we moved in we started looking around at broadband deals, being students who are still looking for work we were looking for a cheap deal, which we found in Orange as one of us was a broadband mobile customer. Brilliant, we thought; cheap internet which be set up in 10 days...2 weeks later and no sign of a router and no sense from anyone at customer services. Finally, after a few heated phone calls our router is sent to us. Great! Until we realise our line is inactive despite orange saying it was, cue a technician. FINALLY, we have internet, internet that is out 90% of the time and has the average speed of 1 Mbps, will be changing to BT ASAP! Do not go with orange-AWFUL!!

Pro: OK when it's working

Con: Hopeless when something goes wrong

The Orange help desk are fine if you have a simple problem that’s on their checklist. But if the problem is with their Servers, for example, the help desk in India cannot help you. When Orange broadband is not working properly (eg sometimes running at 2.5mbps, sometimes running at 0.4mbps, sometimes stopping altogether) it is impossible to speak to someone who can actually investigate the problem. Emails to Orange only elicit the reply “ring the help desk”. It seems impossible to get anyone at Orange to actually investigate a problem.

Orange Broadband

Pro: Constant Speed,Cheap,Reliable.

Con: Given ridiculously long email address

I joined Orange broadband 6 months ago because of Tesco's extortionate price-£20 for stand alone broadband.I've had a couple of minor problems such as occasionally having to restart the router when starting up but overall it's been satisfying.I only get between 1.5 and 1.7 mb but that's down to where I live and the speed is constant and never dips at peak times.I've had to contact customer services only once to check my connection date and they were polite and courteous. The email address they supply you with however,is ridiculously long and that is my only gripe.

Orange Broadband Review

I recently got Orange and was promised a speed of 3.5 mb - the average speed for my street apparently - even though my line should be 6mb. However after numerous phone calls and system/router tweaks due to a poor speed, they could not raise it above 2.4 yet quoted me a £120 cancellation fee! - for a failed service! The staff appeared sympathetic but were still not prepared to waive or reduce the fee - obviously my fault I live where I do, nothing to do with their 'service'! And they're still advertising a speed of 8mb! Basically AVOID at all costs (especially if you live in the Brighton area).

we have been with orange for a few years now from when it was freeserve we have terrible connection problems and it is just getting so bad I have to try for up to an hour to get connection and then it drops off in the middle of using it I would suffice to say that its worst than useless and I have been to lazy to move providers but the stress of finding a connection means I will have to make that move.

Orange Broadband Review

Moved from BT to Orange, what a mistake I thought, spoke to foreign Customer Support team, who could not help at all. Then I realised I had the same problem as when I first changed to BT, Sometimes it worked and other times not so bad speeds of 0.17 download. I have changed the channel on the netgear router from 1 to 9 and it works perfectly. When I rang Customer Support team to tell them I had sorted the problem out myself, he told me the boadband works best on channel 9 or 11. Why did they not tell me this in the first place, instead of me having to find out myself after nearly 3 months. Works well now, fingers crossed. IHope this info can help somebody else.

Had no problems at all with Orange until this month. Now, by download speed has gone from >10mbs to 1.0/1.5 mbs. In fact, the upload speed is nearly as fast as the download speed!!! Some users have clearly had bad experiences, but just to add balance I have been with Orange since they were Freeeserve, through Wanadoo etc and they have been pretty good all round. We live in the middle of nowhere so connection speeds are not fantastic, but easily run four high speed PCs & Xbox, albeit with a Netgear router, not the rubbish one Orange provide. Had a couple of router problems recently (now upgraded it) and Orange support was extremely good, talked me through even though it was not their equipment. Reasonably impressed!

orange seem to get a fair amount of bad reviews but i've had no problems with reliability and speed in the five years i've been with them and wanadoo - there are often three of us accessing the internet simultaneously every evening with never a problem - i was considering changing ISP because of the deals available but am beginning to wonder if this is wise when we have no trouble accessing the internet. I would agree on the bad customer service though - have only had to contact once but that was a very frustrating experience!

Cheap, fast speeds. only very minor problems. I constantly get high speeds, the connection is solid and with having an orange mobile its very cheap! Only issues i have is it won't let you online if you use your own router, you must use theirs. And the connection may drop for a few hours around midnight, this happens maybe once every 4 months. which is no problem really.

Shocking service. Been with them since they were Wanadoo (after freeserve). Service had always been fine and fast. Been having problems with intermittent service, talk to them and they told us to upgrade our package because we were probably over our download limit. Upgraded to unlimited and still had the same problems. Made the mistake of moving the phone over to them too to get a better deal. Got no service for 5 days and were told it was due to migration of the line and at times were told that it was due to work being done one the line. 20 calls to customer service so far and still no one can sort it out. All we get is '10 days this 5 days that' they are kings of the BS. Don't be fooled by them, stay away.

Been with Orange (not by choice - I'm boarding and this is what the householders use) for about two years. Shocking. Customer service is abysmal - 'outsourced' with deteriorating language skills, poor phone connection, script-based 'help', flat refusal to transfer calls to their line managers, and LONG wait times. Signal is up and down like a yo-yo, the router they provided broadcasts on about a 10 foot radius. More or less runs Google Talk; you might get Amazon if you're lucky and don't mind waiting for it all to download; don't even consider any of the iplayers. Tied in for 18 months because they've provided an intermittent service rather than no service at all - you can only pull out if you have a consistent 31 day period of getting nothing! TBH, I get better service out of my cruddy, cheap Vodafone dongle, which only works in one position in the house, but when it works, it holds its signal for up to six hours, is no slower than the Orange, and only has to be paid for when it's actually working! I would have used zero ratings on reliability, customer support and value for money if I could have.

Been with them for about two years. Consistently good speeds (4-6MB on an "up to 8MB" service). Never, ever lost service. Still the best deal I can find even now for an exchange that is not unbundled (£7.99 PM). BUT, I have been arguing with them about their crazy spam filters blocking too much (including emails from Orange!) and their customer service is so incredibly bad that I would leave them and actually pay more elsewhere for the peace of mind of knowing good CS and Support was available (not much hope in this industry it seems though!). Indian call centre and all that entails; email queries responded to with stock phrases and never actually responding to the questions you raise. Because of their CS I would never recommend them.

I was paying BT and Orange the same time, Orange seem fit to charge you an extra 30 days even when your original contract was fullfilled. What a con. Read the full terms and conditions first, then you will be looking for a better company to supplie your broadband, the service was ok but the speed was terrible but the fact that they want to take money for nothink just made me realise that I will never use orange again.

I am amazed at how awful these reviews are. I ordered orange broadband purely because it seemed such good value - £23 for a package including broadband, line rental, two phone lines and free calls 24/7 to landlines in the uk and 25 countries abroad. (you can only get this package if you have an orange mobile phone). The connection to broadband was set up without any hiccups. I moved house 4 weeks after getting the package, and all my services were transferred to the new address at no cost, with broadband up and running again after seven days as projected by customer services. I received emails keeping me informed of sll stsgs of the connection process. To date I have not once even briefly lost my broadband connection. The only drawbacks I can think of is a slightly complicated set-up process (but I managed it with the instructions), and different passwords for different parts of thepackage, which gets confusing at times. I am happier with Orange than I have been with any other provider (have tried SKY, BT, 3 and AOL over the years). I don't usually enter reviews, but thought I should on this occasion as my experience is so different from the ones I ave read here.

Have been helping a neighbour who was having email problems with her Orange Broadband service. She started finding many emails were never received, although all the spam still got through. Several calls to 'Customer Services' who were clearly in India and knew considerably less about email and computers than I did! After getting them to escalate the problem, which would be sorted out in 48 hours - nothing. More phone calls and different time scales for resolution, but still no response or solution of problem. After further calls and nothing being done - and no way to register a complaint verbally, the customer gave up. She is now moving to BT and when phoning Orange for a MAC code, she was almost begged to stay with Orange, by somebody who at least sounded like they cared (NOT in India for course!) but was told it was all too late. Got to say I have had experience of helping people with a number of different ISPs and most of them are pretty poor, but Orange are the worst of the lot!

Absolutely appalling, the download speeds have dropped to an average of 0.3Mbs during the peak periods. Sometimes I am getting faster upload speeds than download. If I go online at retard o'clock in the morning I can get 3.0Mbs O whoopee do!! Hello Earth to Orange! I want decent speeds when I want to use the internet not when you can be bothered to give it to me! I had several long and interesting chats with the helpful people at orange support (note the sarcasm) during which I was informed that it must be the BT line that was at fault. If that is the case, why was my next door neighbour getting 1.0Mb/s when I was getting 0.3Mb/s? In short if you are the sort of person who enjoys mutilating your scrotum with a rusty pen knife, sign up to Orange. Otherwise, avoid them like the plague, they are useless. Was with this lot from the Freeserve days, through Wanadoo and finally Orange with the service deteriorating as the companies changed. Freeserve = Great Orange = Okay I say okay but this is excluding their absolutely appauling customer service which I would award -5 if it was possible to do so. Took the 8 mb package but was told I could only get 2mb due to my phone line. Repeatedly asked if it could be upgraded to 8mb to be fobbed off with the same story. Changed to O2 and got 8mb straight away for £7.34 as oppose to the £18 I had been paying Orange. Strange that isn't it? Checked again today and they would still only give me 6mb for £20. The service was reliable though, I only had about five drop outs in the time from Freeserve to Orange which covered arond 6 years and never had any trouble with billing

I moved to Orange from BT after getting a very good deal on BB as a monthly mobile customer. The actual move took a little time (Orange seemed to misplace the order) but on the transfer day it all worked well. I'm getting slightly faster speeds (up & down) and I do not suffer from slow speed during peak times as I did with BT (Sunday evenings was especially bad) Most importantly for me, the single monthly payment charge for everything (including line rental) is SO much easier to understand than my old BT bills.

They never listen to you and they never admit their fault. I have been charged the late payment last three months because they said I didn't inform the new card details, so it delays the payment transaction. That's rubbish!! My card has not changed last 2 years! However, they never admit their administration fault and still keep charging you. You may not believe that they did exactly the same mistake last year as well and I paid for their mistakes. When you got a problem, Orange never deal with you, never listen to you and insist there is no problem at their end. How awful is that! I ordered the MAC code to leave and only hope they will give me the right one which works.

I have been trying to request a MAC code to leave this sorry outfit and when it was at last issued, it was not accepted by my new provider so I have to wait until the original expires before they will issue another - even though it is their fault. Their starter Broadband package just increased from £14.99 a month to £19.99 with the promise of up to 8 Meg but it remains at 1 Meg. Nothing short of a disgrace to increase the monthly fees by 25% in the middle of a recession. I have been with them for about eight years (previously Freeserve) and cannot wait to leave. Am currently in the process of formally complaining.

I've been with Orange Broadband since the beginning and can honestly say I've never had a problem. I agree that customer support is a shambles but the actual broadband has never let me down. God I hope I haven't spoken too soon.

When my contract with Virgin was up a few weeks ago,i started looking around for the best deal i could get for my broadband and was given no pointers at all from review sites. This is because people rarely review their providers unless something goes wrong and thy're dis-satisfied with the service in some way.So here goes:I looked at a variety of providers and they generally had poor reviews. In the end,as my mobile contract was with Orange, i opted for them despite the poor reviews they get.Their service has been excellent having switched me over on the day they said they would and have provided a high speed connection (connected at6.5meg on an 8meg connection)Their live box is excellent and after a few teething problems with my user name their customer service is good.I actually recieved a phone call today asking if i am happy with my broadband and have any issues they can help me with!I have got my second line up & running now and am making free local, international & Orange mobile calls through it.So credit where credit's due-i can't fault Orange for their broadband service.

terrible customer support

I have a problem with connection and speed all the time. when the connection gets resolved the speed drops to below half a mb. when you ring up customer services (which i assume is in india) they go through the same script and have no log of any previous calls. they then ring you the next day from the uk at their faults team and you feel a little better that you may be getting somewhere but then have to ring them back and ask for the faults team but the guys in india cant put you through! so you go right back to the beginning. i find this very very poor. i have been a customer with orange for nearly fifteen years now and am sorry to say that their broadband service has lost them a customer as soon as my contract is up. which is a shame because i found their phone service quite good. sort your customer service out orange. avoid these guys.

Slow Slow Slow....

Since orange brought Wanadoo, all it has ever done is geting slow, slow and even more slower, it even goes offline for a short period of time then reconnects... I have came to a point that moving to another ISP is the only way out. I've been recomended BE* Broadband, so i will give them ago.

Awful!!

Thankfully my contract has just come to an end so that I can move provider. Customer support is terrible. I have just been charged £9.99 for a filter which I did not need to resolve my problem. It was sent to me because the advisor in the call centre didn't know how to resolve the problem. I had to ring up again a week later to get the issue resolved with someone else. I have lost count how many times I have had to ring Orange over the last 12 months and the promised wireless connection could never be achieved. Also I should have 8mb but the speed is very very slow. Less than 2mb definitely!!

Very Happy, no problems at all

Orange seem to be getting bad press but I've never had any problems with them. I've even signed my grandparents up to their service! I've had mobile from Orange for years so it seemed like the obvious place to go for broadband and I think I made a good choice.

Slow and Unreliable - Avoid

Slow speeds, unreliable connection and you get put on hold for hours every time you call the call centre. Avoid like the plague.
