  • O2 is a joke

Last weekend, yesterday and today download speed is about 25 kbps. No chance for streaming, youtube very slow, internet sites so-so.
Good speeds happen when you’re at work; afternoons and weekends are a joke.
The worst thing is I cannot complain because there are no technical problems - at some working days about 10am-4pm speeds are really good. So what, most people are at school/work.
Nowadays you can watch more and more stuff without downloading, just streaming. With o2 - forget about it. Downloading also takes ages unless you do it while at work/school. It’s useless.

I only really connected with O2 because my
cousin could get a discount [£7.99 for 20meg,
static IP] and I must say I have been more
than pleased with my experience. If I couldn’t
get a family discount, I’d still choose to pay
    full price for O2.
I had a tiny problem with the router at first,
but this was easily rectified by the friendly &
efficient tech support. Other than that, no
    problems whatsoever.

    Highly recommended.

I am very disappointed with O2. It started from

weeks later it was there. The connection was
not as good than my previous provider but
    because bulldog/tiscali stopped performing
well I moved to O2. Biggest mistake ever. 9
months later, I moved out of my apartment,
finished my contact early with them, and
because I terminated the contract early I had a
fee of about £50 in comparison BT was £15
which was for the same length of time. In
December I sent back the broadband box and
now in the end of February I get an email plus
text saying I haven’t returned it and in case I
won’t return it I will be charged £50. This is
outrages. On top of this I can still log into
O2’s website but all my bills were deleted
from the day after my contract finished with
them so I couldn’t view my last bill with them
which was only available online. It seems they
have run out of cash flow and they now do
everything to get more assets. I wouldn’t have
my broadband from O2 again, they aren’t
    good
service provider for broadband. I am very

Been with O2 since April 2009 - I live a fair way from the exchange - but the support team got me a throughput of 1200kbps at peak times - good enough.

Its now Feb 2010 and since Nov 2009 - my peak throughput has been 200kbps .

Customer services initially said I had to fullfill my contract - but now they are happy to let me go - - O2 has got a serious capacity problem because it offers unlimited downloads - and those users are allegedly going to be weaned off the system .

Anyway in the meantime - I’m paying broadband costs for little better than dial up service …. it wont get any better !!!!!!!!!!!!

You call customer service about it, and they just have no intention of helping, they try blame the line. There’s nothing wrong with the line because I’ve had different providers before and never ever had this problem.

Moved from ZEN Internet (top notch service but pricey at £25); moved to O2 LLU 24mb service (getting about 11.5mb) which is what I’d expect at my distance from exchange. LLU (ADSL2) 24mb service is fine as O2 can control their own equipment in your exchange. I think those on O2 8mb (ADSL) tend to have more issues than ADSL2. I’ve not had any problems. The ADSL2 modem sets itself up (o2 pre-configured firmware - dummed down for dummies type). The box itself has proven temperemental for a few folk (like me), but others love its SNR tolerance, speed and wireless range. Oh, and you get to talk to British folk.

Finally told them i’d had enough and without too much drama they gave me my MAC code and let me out of the contract without penalty. Which was nice, doesn’t make up for the fact that i’ve been paying over the odds for a way below average service for the past 2 months.

Ping is 140ms tops and I have had to take a break from online gaming as its made it unplayable, by the time it gets through warcraft you are talking 300-1000ms from 40-80ms a month or so ago.

Then was great for the first couple of months until towards the end of October when things started to really slow down. Pings are over 140ms and my download speeds vary from 0.3mbps to 3.5mbps. I’ve got to say I had nothing but problems. When I first connected the speed was so slow it felt like dial up! Then when we used the phone we got background noise so the phone was unusable.

I let O2 know have the difficulties and they sent a new modem. I tried that but no luck. O2 insisted I open the BT box and try plugging in to somewhere else, or they would not do anything else. This took a number of months!

I refused to mess around with the BT box and continued to pay. However I decided why should I pay for this when it didn’t work and I informed O2. All I got in return was a patronising person telling me I had to take it on board it was my problem!

Luckily I have another line and I still had my old Pipex account that worked fine.

However they are chasing me for the cancellation fee!

All I can say if O2 is working fine great….but if you have a problem you are own your own!!!…that’s my experience.

They are now sending me to their debt collection service maybe if they concentrated on making their system work and positively sorting out problems it might be better!!

Maybe this shows you get what you pay for!

    Brilliant !

We have been with Eclipse for a number of years now and should have changed ages ago.

Within 7 working days of giving O2 the MAC code we were up and running.

    Easiest set-up ever!

Its like a different Era on the internet now. Its super fast and doesn’t drop the line like Eclipse.

I can listen to internet radio now without the line dropping all the time.

At the prices they charge you would be mad not to look into changing to O2. We are on a bundled exchange which limits who we can use. But with 3 months free and 17.99 a month after, no-one else could provide unlimited download usage at this price. If you are unbundled its even cheaper at 7.99.

    Would recommend highly!

Don’t suffer like we did for years with a slow, unreliable provider - switch!

I used to be a virgin customer, and am a very heavy downloader and I used to be capped by Virgin… but O2 have never capped me even though I download more now than I did with virgin.

I was quoted an estimate of up to 5mb, but when I tested my connection I was getting 6.5mbps which is more than what they quoted and I think that’s brilliant lol. To date I have had no problems with O2, and I was setup in just a week. I recommend them ESPECIALLY FOR HEAVY DOWNLOADERS :).

I needed some advice about the wireless connection and home network and they were really quick to reply and so helpful and understandable> Its such a refreshing change to find a company that are true to their promises. Thoroughly recomended. Dont go for the cheapest. Youll end up spending more in the end in time and frustration. I’m an O2 Convert!

I have been with o2 home broadband since Jan this year. the set up was so easy. Got updates by texts as when router came and when connection date was. It is so fast. I was with sky before and could make a coffee by time a page had loaded but with o2 it is like turning a page in a book. I will be staying with o2 as so cheap and best value out there. No wonder they are number 1 in broadband and mobile phones

Just like to say the O2 broadband I have is excellent and beyond what I expected. I live in a fairly busy town and ordered the premium package. I was kept informed all the way by txt mesages the status of my order it was activated on the date they said. Using the Ethernet cable I am kept at a constant speed of 17-18meg even in peak hours, thats 2meg a second downloading files!. I do not currently have a wireless adapter. All I can say is I am highly delighted with O2 and the internet is lighting fast now compared to my awful USB dongle I had on a 2 year contract..I never got above 300kbps with that!

O2 Broadband are the first ISP I have gone with (I have lived alone now for around a year and a half, and have been with them for most of this time). I have to say that I have never been disappointed once. I am somewhat lucky in the fact that I live relatively close to the exchange. I signed up for the 16meg package and got the full 16meg! download speeds never drop below an average of between 11 and 14 meg, even during peak times. In this period of times, I have only experienced two problems (aproximately) and when I have called the customer service line I have never been holding long, always through to UK callcentre, speedy and accurate advice, and I would be sorted in no time. My father is with TalkTalk broadband and they are absolutely foul. I am with them for my landline calls, as they are the best value for money, but their broadband speed/reliability is horrid, and their customer service is even worse.

I HIGHLY recommend O2 broadband to anyone with a physical BT Landline.

    I highly recommend O2 Broadband
1- Open your broadband router box; enclosed disk makes installation fantastically simple even for newcomers. It has step-by-step easy pictorial connection guide this applies to wireless connection too.
2- Connection within 30 minutes of opening the box.
    3- Exceptionally competent technical support.
4- Situated in UK and available 24/7 and contact number is free of charge.
5- Calls answered within few minutes
6- Billing department very competent, efficient and courteous.
What a refreshing contrast from services “supplied” by Pipex/Tiscali.

O2 is my first broadband provider. Value for Money: It’s great value for money, especially if you’re an exisiting O2 pay and go customer. You just need to top up £10 every three months to keep the discounted rate going. Speed: Speeds are very good. They test your line for the first ten days after being connected where they send the fastest possible signal through - I synched at over 17Mbps before falling in time to 7Mbps - in line with the ‘upto 8Mbps’ package I had selected. O2 uses the ADSL2+ network used by Be, which about 2/3 of the UK can get and its faster than normal ADSL broadband. Customer Service: Customer service is free and UK based. Reliability: It took me under 30 minutes to set the broadband equipment provided up - just put the CD-ROM in and followed the instructions! All the router settings are done automatically. Did have one short outage of broadband, customer service said it was an exchange based problem (got through to customer service without waiting in a queue!)

O2 are (one and a half days in!) far and away the best ISP I have experienced so far - and I’ve used several - most recently Pipex, whose customer service has been appalling. I signed up for Standard - up to 8Meg, which is plenty fast enough for my needs. The set up was really straightforward - and I have quite a complex home network, which the O2 box recognised and set up automatically. I didn’t use the set-up disk, and the only thing to be manually configured was the SMTP setting in my mail client. I had to contact customer support over a minor matter, and they were excellent. I’m getting almost 6Mb download and 1Mb upload, which is three times what I got with Pipex on standard ADSL, for one third of the cost. Brilliant, and thoroughly recommended.
