ASA receives speed complaint about Vodafone

The Advertising Standards Agency has recently received a complaint about the mobile broadband and communications giant Vodafone, and it has been lodged by its rival mobile giant 3.

An industry watchdog has recently received a complaint about the mobile broadband and communications giant Vodafone, and the complaint relates to the speeds that the company claims that it offers. The complaint has been put in by a rival mobile communications giant 3, which is challenging claims that have been made in relation to Vodafone’s mobile broadband speeds.

Vodafone has made claims recently that it can offer speeds of up to 7.2Mbps with its mobile broadband services, and it is this claim that the complaint from 3 centres around. The complaint by 3 was made to the Advertising Standards Agency last week. According to the complaint the 7.2Mbps speed that is advertised by Vodafone is only available in certain areas and is not representative of the general speeds that the provider offers.

The complaint from 3 is said to claim that the broadband speeds that are advertised by Vodafone are ‘unlikely to be achieved’ and are ‘misleading’. A high profile marketing and advertising campaign by Vodafone, coupled with the provider matching the prices offered by 3, has put 3 under increasing pressure over recent weeks.

An official from 3 said: ‘The complexity of mobile broadband means even if you use 3.6Mbps technology it is very unlikely a customer will experience those speeds. Vodafone’s 3G coverage is not as extensive as ours.’

With all mobile providers using the same technology and devices mobile broadband speeds have become a big issue when it comes to being ahead of the competition, and speed claims from one provider are constantly under scrutiny from other providers.
