The number and type of activities or services that customers can access with their broadband connections is constantly changing and getting updated with the ongoing developments in the industry. The Internet was primarily used as a source of information and was treated as a valuable resource, and it still is being used in such manner until today. However, more and more users and turning to the World Wide Web for entertainment purposes as well. Users can enjoy streaming television shows and movies online instead of having to wait to catch the same programs on the television, such as with BT Vision or with BSkyB’s pay-TV services.

Aside from that, there’s also online gaming that can be accessed via OnLive, which is an online streaming game service that allowed users to play popular games online and interact with other players from all over the world in the process. BT Broadband was responsible for bringing OnLive to the UK, and offered free games for their customers with the launch of the service as an added bonus to their subscribers.

Now Virgin Media is following suit, not with an online gaming service, but with Spotify, which is a digital music service that provides users with access to millions of songs and titles.

Virgin Media had previously announced that they had stuck a deal with Spotify in July of this year. But now the firm has revealed that they will be including Spotify for free with select broadband and mobile contracts, minus the mobile data charges. The free offer is made available to users who are signing up for a new broadband contract. Existing customers who are renewing their contracts will also get a six-month Spotify Premium membership, free of charge.

New Virgin Mobile subscribers will be able to get three months of Spotify Premium for free. The mobile data usage that users will incur from streaming or downloading music through the service will not be credited to their allocated mobile data allowance either, during the free trial and even when the trial ends.

For those with an existing contract, the free service will only be offered to subscribers who have signed on to lines at 30Mbits/sec or faster, which costs about £18.50 and up every month. Virgin Media will also be announcing further instructions on how Spotify can be used in conjunction with its TiVo set-top boxes in the coming weeks.
