Mobile broadband networks need to be reinforced

According to the communications and broadband giant Virgin Media mobile broadband networks in the UK need to be reinforced because of the heavy demands that are placed upon them.

As many people will already know the demand for mobile broadband services across the UK has soared over recent years, and with demand and popularity quickly growing the networks have started to really feel the strain. Communications and media giant, Virgin Media, has now stated that mobile broadband networks in the UK need to be reinforced because of the heavy demands that have been placed on them.

The media giant said that in order for the networks to be able to cope with the continued growth and demand for mobile broadband services it is essential that they are reinforced. Commercial Director of Virgin Media Business, Andrew McGrath, highlighted the issue on the company blog, stating that UK networks were coming under increased pressure as a result of more and more people using these services.

He said that digital traffic jams were being created during peak periods as a result of many popular applications being data hungry ones, as well as because of the sheer number of people accessing the networks on dongles and laptops, smart phones, tablets, and other internet enabled devices.

He said that this issue now needed to be resolved as a matter of urgency, particularly given that many UK businesses were now becoming increasingly reliant on mobile broadband services. He stated: “Operators should look to address network issues by investing in high-capacity fibre-optic backhaul services to handle the rise in mobile data.”

Do you agree that mobile broadband networks urgently need to be reinforced?
