Virgin XL customers get free broadband boost

Feb 1 2011 / By William Harvey

Many broadband customers with Virgin Media will be pleased to hear that the communications and media giant is providing some users with a free broadband boost.

It has been announced recently that many customers who are with Virgin Media for their broadband are set to receive a free broadband boost which could see their broadband speed increase by fifty percent. The free upgrade is being offered to customers that are on the XL package with broadband speeds of up to 20Mbps. These speeds will now be upgraded for free to up to 30Mbps, providing a valuable boost for many customers.

However, whilst the upgrade itself is free customers may need to shell out thirty pounds for the new SuperHub wireless router. However, Virgin Media is hoping to counteract this by cutting the monthly cost of the service from £20 to £18.50. This is on the condition that the customer takes out a phone line costing £12.24 per month.

The service offers upload speeds of up to 3Mbps, and unlimited data usage subject for fair usage policies. Virgin claims that its offering is better than the closest plan offered by rival provider BT, stating that the new XL plan “is expected to give customers faster average speeds than BT Infinity”.

A Virgin Media broadband official added: “As consumers continually demand more and more from their broadband, the unique power of our next-generation network means that we’re able to turn up the dial to meet their needs.”

Virgin superfast fiber optic broadband 20Mbps is what I have, and to be honest it is rubbish so I expect 30Mbps to be as bad if not worse.
