Entertainment, broadband, and media giant Virgin has once again topped the broadband speed charts after achieving average download speeds of 9.3Mbps.

With more and more people carrying out a wide range of activities online broadband providers are now continually striving to offer high speed broadband plans at affordable prices. Virgin Media is one provider that has become known for its innovative fibre based broadband network and its high download speeds, and according to recent data the provider has once again topped the broadband speed charts.

According to reports Virgin Media has come in with an average download speed of 9.3Mbps. This is a slight drop compared to the average of 10Mbps that was recorded earlier in the year, but still puts Virgin at the top of the speed charts when it comes to broadband services.

The fastest ADSL copper wire suppliers were found to be O2 and BE Broadband, which share the same network, with an average speed of 5.7Mbps. O2 and BE Broadband also came in with the highest upload speed, which was slightly faster than Virgin, coming in at 0.78Mbps.

One industry official said: “Virgin Media consistently delivers the fastest broadband speeds using its advanced cable network. It already offers speeds of up to 10Mb, 20Mb and even a 50Mb broadband package – with plans to launch the UK’s first 100Mb broadband deal from December. However, its network only covers around 51% of the country and if you don’t live in a cable area, you’ll need to choose an ADSL package. BT broadband is also rolling out its own fibre optic cable network. So check out when BT Infinity will be available in your area and see if you can get speeds of up to 40Mb broadband.”
