Broadband and communications giant Virgin Media has recently announced that it is trying to raise its domestic profile by listing itself on the London Stock Exchange. However, amidst these efforts it has suffered an outage that has caused frustration for its users.

Over recent weeks Virgin Media has suffered a number of minor outages, which have left users unable to access their broadband or receive emails for several hours at a time. The company recently announced that it was aiming to increase its domestic profile by listing itself on the London Stock Exchange. However, amidst these efforts it has suffered another embarrassment with regards to loss of service for users.

It is claimed that on Monday evening and much of Tuesday many Virgin broadband customers struggled to get online after an outage left them unable to access the internet. Some users claimed that they were unable to access their broadband internet for up to twenty four hours as a result of the outage, which came at a bad time for Virgin given that it is trying to improve its profile.

An official from Virgin said that the outage seemed to have occurred at around eleven o’ clock on Monday evening, stating: “From around 11pm last night, power fluctuations at one of our facilities in Berkshire caused some customers in the local area to experience intermittent disruption to their services.”

He added that the Virgin Media website had been affected, as had access to receiving emails for some users, adding: “It also affected the virginmedia.com website and some of our customers were temporarily unable to log into their email accounts. Our engineers worked throughout the night and full service was restored by lunchtime.”
