A study carried out by communications and broadband giant Virgin Media has revealed that a rising number of younger people are embracing broadband services in the UK.

For many adults the thought of being without a broadband connection is a scary and even unthinkable one, as so many of us have become reliant on broadband for everything from entertainment and shopping to working and career opportunities. However, the results of a recent study carried out by one broadband giant has suggested that more and more youngsters are now becoming increasingly reliant on broadband services.

The study was carried out by communications and broadband giant Virgin Media, and according to the results of the study youngsters are now spending up to five hours a day on the Internet. The study was commissioned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of broadband services in the UK.

The study also showed that the majority of kids that were spending time using their broadband services were using the internet whilst completing their homework. Another separate study showed that younger people were becoming increasingly demanding when it came to broadband connections. A third of children were found to expect web pages to load in less than five seconds.

One official said that the way in which children were now using technology such as broadband services showed that they had ‘impressive cognitive skills’. He added that broadband had now become part of life for younger children who probably didn’t even know what life without broadband was like. He stated: “The internet and broadband has changed the way that we work and the way that we think. There is no going back.”
