Virgin may give customers free WiFi
According to recent reports the entertainment and media giant, Virgin Media, is considering giving its customers access to free WiFi by setting up access points around the country for those with smart phones and mobile internet devices.

It has been reported that the entertainment and Media giant, Virgin Media, is considering setting up WiFi access points around the country to provide its customers with free access to WiFi for their smart phones and mobile Internet devices. It is thought that if the plans go ahead the service will be made free for customers that subscribe to Virgin’s broadband and calls services.
It is also thought that the WiFi services will be made available to non-Virgin customers, who will be able to access the internet via the WiFi service by either paying on a Pay as You Go basis or by paying a small subscription fee. BT Openzone and The Cloud both offer similar services for those that want to access the internet via their mobile devices whilst on the go.
The WiFi service will be run through routers being wired into the green cabinets that are located by the kerbside. It is thought that customers that use the service will be able to get speeds of around 5Mbps. Many Virgin customers will be pleased about being able to access WiFi for free whilst they are on the move.
In the meantime internet service providers are still competing when it comes to fixed line broadband, with Virgin set to release its high speed broadband of 100Mbps before the end of the year and BT striving to increase its networks speeds over the next couple of years.
