Thousands of London schools to benefit from Virgin broadband
It has been announced that thousands of schools in London will soon benefit from super-fast broadband courtesy of Virgin Media, after the provider was chosen to take over the London Public Sector Network.

Using broadband and internet services within schools has become a vital part of today’s education, with this technology giving students and teaching staff access to valuable information, research tools, and data which can make all the difference to their educational success.
It has now been revealed that three thousand schools in London will be receiving super-fast broadband courtesy of broadband and communications giant Virgin Media. The Internet service provider has been asked to take over the London Public Sector Network, and for this Virgin will receive a tidy two hundred million pounds.
The new networks will enable the schools to enjoy faster speeds and benefit from more efficient tools and platforms. It is thought that the savings from the network will run to around one hundred million pounds. Other public sector organisations in the area will also be able to use the network, and this includes local authorities, council offices, government agencies, and the like.
One official said: “The potential growth of the London PSN is absolutely vast. It will not only give schools across the capital the means and tools to provide a richer, more interactive learning environment for their pupils but any and every public sector organisation will be able to make a more resourceful and cost-effective use of ICT through this platform for shared services.”
