Subscriber numbers for Virgin Media reaches record high

Despite the current crisis in the economy, UK broadband service provider, Virgin Media has claimed that “record numbers of customers” are now using its high-speed broadband services.

The total number of subscribers to on-net broadband customers has now risen to 3.68 million following the recent release of its latest fourth quarter 2008 results, which showed that the number of customers in this area has increased by 57 100.

An improvement in the tier nix was also noted by Virgin Media following the launch of its 50Mbps package at the end of 2008, with the total number of users that are now subscribing to next-generation (10Mbps or higher) services has now hit 1.2 million.

The losses in other areas of the operation were offset with the help of the company’s broadband division performance, with it being revealed by Virgin Media that in the last three months of last year its overall operating losses stood at £50 million.

The proven success of the 50Mbps broadband service deployment was something that the chief executive of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett said he was very happy with.

He commented “Since its launch in December, the consumer response to our next-generation 50Mb broadband service has been encouraging and helped reinforce our position as the UK’s leading residential broadband provider.”

The company also intended to build on the solid foundations it had created and would continue to offer a range of “superior” and varied services to its customers, added Berkett.

As Virgin Media picks up the pace on its bid to become “the highest-quality broadband service in the UK” it recently announced that it is to upgrade broadband customers who are currently on 2Mbps services to its 10Mbps superfast service. The price for the 10Mbps package will start from £14 per month and the migration of its customers to the faster service will begin in May.
