No broadband speed exaggerations promised by Virgin Media

In order to promote a high level of information among broadband provider services Virgin Media has made a promise to any advertise broadband connection speeds for its National Broadband services that it believes most of its customers will be able to receive.

Customers that are currently not in areas that offer cable broadband services, like rural parts of the country, will be able to access the National Broadband product, which will be available to users who access their broadband using DSL connections over a telephone line.

In an effort to be honest with users about the connection speeds that they will be able to offer, Virgin will be setting up a new marketing campaign that will promise users that they will be getting the fastest broadband connection speeds that the provider is able to give out.

The aim of what is being referred to as the ‘National Broadband Speed Promise’ by Neil Berkett, the CEO of Virgin, is to move away from misleading customers into taking out broadband services that do not give them the speeds the were expecting and to help users to pick a broadband that will do what they want.

With the use of the ADSL2+ technology Virgin Media will soon be able to send IPTV services over its broadband lines to areas that were previously unable to access these services and at the same time will also be able to improve the speed of the National Broadband range.

The managing director of Broadband for Virgin Media, Graham Oxby said that it should not cost current customers any extra to access these higher speed broadband services. The average speed of connection over Virgin Media’s broadband service was recently found to be between 8.1Mbps and 8.7Mbps according to a study be telecoms watchdog, Ofcom.
