15th December looks to be the release date for Virgins 50Mbps service
A date seems to now be set for the release of the new super fast broadband connection over fibre optic cabling from broadband operator Virgin Media although validating the speeds of the connection may be difficult due to the current speed testing system not being able to measure it accurately.
After a recent invitation for journalists to attend a mystery event Virgin Media look set to release their new high-speed broadband service on the 15th December 2008.
Although the broadband operator has always said that it will be launching the new 50Mbps broadband service before the end of the year it has so far refused to confirm an exact release date for this revolutionary new service.
The last update given by Virgin Media has been for them to ‘hold the date’ on the 15th December, which seems to the date that the UK’s fastest broadband service will be shown off to the public.
The last few month have seen the mobile telecommunications giant, Virgin Media preparing for the launch of the service and once release this fibre optic broadband service will easily outstrip any other broadband service currently on the market in terms of speed.
The failure of any online speed test system has already been publicly criticised by the telco as being unable to cope with incredibly high speeds of this new broadband connection as its launch date approaches, with major discrepancies being shown up when the service was publicly trialed in Kent recently.
Virgin recently release pictures of the new 50Mbps modem that will be used with the service and as the launch date draws closer throughout the country it is likely that it will be offering more information with regards to the overall service. A spokesperson for the company refused to comment on any speculations with regards to the service.
