100Mbps service expanded by Virgin
It has been reported that entertainment and communications giant Virgin Media has extended its 100Mbps high speed fibre based broadband network to another five UK locations.

Media and communications giant Virgin Media has become known for its offering of high speed fibre based broadband services, and an increasing number of people have been signing up to the company’s innovative high speed broadband plans. With more and more people using their broadband for high bandwidth activities such as streaming content, watching TV, and online gaming, Virgin has become the perfect choice for many broadband users.
It has now been reported that the Internet service provider has now extended its 100Mbps broadband service to another five locations within the UK, giving even more people the chance to enjoy super-fast broadband at affordable prices. The five areas are to be upgraded so that they can receive the high speed service, which will give them far greater opportunities when it comes to using their broadband service. The towns receiving the upgrades include the Pentwyn district in Cardiff, Cheshunt and Hatfield in Hertfordshire, and Southport.
A spokesperson from Virgin Media said: “We are rolling out the 100Mbps to all of our network across the UK, which should see this service reach half of all UK homes by 2012. This 100Mbps broadband will be available from £35 per month (plus line rental) for users.”
He added: “We have been conducting a number of trials in an effort to look at ways to expand our network into more remote areas. But it makes sense to upgrade all our networks, across our footprint. We already had a presence and customers in Treforest.”
