According to recent confirmation from media and entertainment giant Virgin media, there will be around an extra one hundred thousand homes with access to the Virgin Media fibre optic broadband network by the end of this year.

Recent confirmation has been received from officials at Virgin Media, who have said that as part of a privately funded expansion programme around an extra one hundred thousand homes will have access to its fibre optic broadband service by the end of this year. This is due to a new construction project that is set to begin in Southampton, which could result in Virgin doubling its presence in the city.

Virgin, which already reaches half of the UK, said that further projects are planned for this year as well as for further on down the line. The company has already extended its cable service to an additional seventy three thousand homes during the first six months of this year. Many people have been attracted to the Virgin Media broadband service due to the increased speeds that the company has become known for providing.

Jon James from Virgin Media said: “By extending our unique fibre optic network to parts of the country previously outside our traditional heartland, we’re ensuring more people can experience the compelling advantages that a superfast connection can bring and in doing so, support the Government’s digital ambitions. Today’s increasingly digital lifestyle requires better broadband and we’ve seen a strong response from the communities we expand into who are crying out for quality services. We’re adding thousands of homes to our network every month as our expansion programme continues and we look for opportunities to give more people access to the fastest broadband and best in home entertainment.”
