Do customers get better value and service with bundling? News

Do customers get better value and service with bundling?

July 1st, 2007 by Richard

Bundling services with Internet Service Providers and communications giants has become very popular in the UK, and many customers take out broadband, telephone, and television subscriptions as a bundle package with the same service provider. Often bundling offers greater value for money, with service providers offering special deals in order to encourage customers to take all these services together. Figures have shown that more and more people throughout the UK are deciding to opt for bundle deals.

Although bundle packages may appear to be cheaper at first glance some professionals have warned that there could be hidden charges involved and that consumers should do their research before signing up to a bundle deal. Consumers are also warned to decide how important service is compared to price, as even if the cost of a bundle package may work out cheaper the service received by the customer may be compromised with some service providers that offer bundle packages.

One industry professional stated: “As ISPs rush to stake a monopoly in people’s homes, they are cutting corners on service – as seen with TalkTalk and Orange broadband – or making up for cheap packages with high call charges.” He also stated that some people could fare far better by taking individual services from different providers, adding: “People should consider splitting their services between the providers that offer the best in one, or two areas. For example, they could get the high-speed broadband of the future from Be Broadband, with the cheap line rental and call packages of YourCalls.”

Another industry expert said: “Although bundle packages can appear to be cheaper consumers need to watch out for hidden costs. It is also important to look at the bigger picture when deciding on broadband, phone, and television services and to decide how important customer service levels are”.
