Business take up for Internet
Point topic has recently released a report that shows the level of Internet popularity amongst businesses in the UK
According to a recent report from Point Topic there has been very little change in Internet take up amongst UK businesses since March of this year. The figures showed that in October around eighty five percent of the 2.12 million UK workplaces had Internet access, which was roughly the same as in March. This equates to around 1.76 million businesses according to the figures.
Previously, between May 2006 and March 2007 there was an increase of 6.3 percent in Internet take up amongst UK businesses according to the report, and this was during a period when broadband development was still ongoing. The report indicates that many of the businesses that still have no Internet access are small and poor.
Tim Johnson, Chief Analyst at Point Topic, stated: “It seems to me that the business ISPs are missing an important opportunity here. These days any business needs internet access, just as it needs a light-bulb and a phone. There are 360,000 UK workplaces still without it. The market needs low cost, low maintenance packages which anyone can use.”
In a breakdown of the figures the Point Topic report showed that all UK businesses with over two hundred and fifty employees had Internet access. Amongst companies with between 51 and 250 employees nearly seven percent still had no Internet access. Amongst companies with between 3 and 50 employees between 11.6 and 15.7 percent still had no Internet access. And amongst companies with just one or two employees just over twenty five percent still had no Internet access.
The findings in the report showed that there was a strong link between the size of the business/number of employees and the take up of Internet. The findings also showed that cable modem connections are found more at smaller workplaces, but are not used amongst larger companies.
