TalkTalk poaches senior executive from O2

Many customers had a lot of things to say about TalkTalk and their services last year, and most of them were negative. So negative, in fact, that TalkTalk topped Ofcom’s complaints list from data recorded between July and September 2011. Ofcom’s report revealed that there were 0.77 complaints recorded against the firm per 1000 landline customers.
On the other side of the spectrum, we see Orange and O2 topping the regulator’s list for being the best UK mobile phone providers. Both firms received a satisfaction score of 72 out of a possible 100, where a mere 10% of subscribers responded that they were not satisfied, while 18% had a neutral opinion.
So it doesn’t really come as a surprise that TalkTalk has moved to poach a senior executive from O2 to join their team with the goal of boosting their own expansion into mobile phones. The executive, Dan Meader, was said to have worked at O2 for a good nine years.
Meader will be the incoming mobile director of TalkTalk as the firm is working to convince its 4.2 million customers to take up their mobile services as well. Since the launch of their mobile services in 2010, TalkTalk has only 50,000 subscribers for their mobile offerings.
It used to be that users could only buy a SIM card from TalkTalk and purchase a handset from another party. However, the group has plans to begin selling mobile phone handsets starting this Spring. Tristia Clarke, commercial director of TalkTalk, said: “We’ve made a good start with a SIM-only offer and we now have the opportunity to offer a range of contracts and handsets at price points that will appeal to TalkTalk customers.”
