Talk Talk won't give up fight on Digital Economy Bill
Despite the announcement that the controversial Digital Economy Bill has now been passed into law one of its biggest opposers has said that the battle will continue even after the general election.
Many industry groups, Internet service providers, and consumers were disappointed this week, when ministers rushed the controversial Digital Economy Bill through the House of Lords, and it was finally passed into law. The bill was rushed through the Lords as part of the wash up period where the government tries to get certain bills – often controversial ones – passed before parliament is dissolved in the run up to the general election, which is set for May 6th.
Since the Digital Economy Bill was launched last year it has faced a great deal of opposition and criticism, and one of its greatest critics and opposers was the Internet provider Talk Talk. The ISP has spoken out many times about the various problems with the Digital Economy Bill, and like many others is disappointed that it has been passed into law without the proper scrutiny that so many had demanded.
However, Talk Talk has said that its war against the Digital Economy Bill is not yet over, and the ISP plans to continue to highlight some of the dangers and risks that the various parts of the bill pose even after the general election. The ISP also said that it will never hand over the details of a customer to a rights holder unless it is forced to do so via a court order.
An official from Talk Talk said that the Digital Economy Bill had looked better that it did when it was introduced initially last year by the time it was passed into law. However, he also said that it till contained many “draconian proposals”.
