First user connected to the TalkTalk fibre optic test
The unveiling of the current state of its north London based high-speed fibre optic broadband trials came as TalkTalk discussed its latest plans to increase broadband connection speeds throughout the UK.
Sylvain Thevenot, the company’s senior director of products and alliances advised that things were now well under way with the trial even though there had initially been “a few false starts” regarding the rollout of the service, in an official piece on the internet service providers’ blog page.
The initial fibre-optic connection that would form a part of the fibre optic broadband trial at the Muswell Hill exchange has now been made and a significant change in the quality of service has been noticed by this particular customer, added Mr Thevenot.
He went on to add that the customer who was already an existing TalkTalk broadband subscriber had been upgraded and had their copper-based ADSL connection converted into a fibre-based VDSL connection that saw them receiving connection speeds of up to 32Mbps after just a few day, which compares to the previous speeds he was receiving of just 5.3Mbps.
TalkTalk did confirm that it was looking to get more homes in the area onto the exchange in the coming weeks but did advise that the current trials were still only in their early stages of testing.
There were also concerns regarding the way in which upload speeds were being altered following the introduction of this new technology but TalkTalk did advise that the group were looking closely at improving the installation process for this technology.
In conclusion Mr Thevenot said “Obviously, our first fibre-optic customer is a great landmark for us here at TalkTalk. But personally, now I’ve seen those speeds of 30 Mbps and more, I’m just looking forward to becoming a triallist myself.”
