Carphone Warehouse releases subscription figures for third quarter

In its latest subscription figures for the third quarter of this year Carphone Warehouse has shown that its number have remained largely unchanged from the second quarter

Carphone Warehouse has recently released a report detailing its customer subscription base for broadband. The figures relate to its customer base for the third quarter of this year, up to 30th September, but the figure shows that the company’s subscription base is largely unchanged from the second quarter of the year. The report showed that Carphone Warehouse, which includes Talk Talk and AOL, has 2.8 million broadband subscribers.

This is partly because of the exclusion of ninety three thousand un-reconciled accounts, which stemmed from a combination of administrative error and problems with migration.
Charles Dunstone, the CEO of Carphone Warehouse, stated: “Within the Fixed Line business, we have continued to grow the broadband base steadily in a slowing market. TalkTalk, in particular, has performed very well, as customers are increasingly recognising that it offers outstanding value combined with a significantly improved customer experience. Capex is now falling in absolute terms, with spending now focused primarily on backhaul capacity and quality of service.”

This has resulted in a reduction of 93,000 customers from the base, many of whom were not paying or were not connected to the network. In view of the pressure on family budgets we plan to re-price AOL services and move people to TalkTalk with incremental line rental services more quickly than previously planned.”

He recently also revealed that the Internet access operation could end up being split as a separate operation, stating: “I believe we have reached a watershed in the evolution of the Group, with two discrete and focused businesses with strong market positions and solid financial foundations. We recognise, however, that the structure of the Group may now no longer be appropriate for the optimal development of the two businesses.”
