Virgin trains to get Wi-Fi hot spots from T-Mobile

The provision of Wi-Fi hot spot services on a number of trains owned by Virgin has been announced by mobile telecoms company T-mobile recently with super-fast wireless access being provided for passenger on all Pendolino Virgin trains.

A new Wi-Fi HotSpot service from T-Mobile is to be rolled out to 52 Pendelino Virgin trains to provide passengers with high-speed wireless broadband access while they travel.

The launch of the super-fast wireless broadband internet access was announced recently by Virgin Trains and T-Mobile and will provide access to traveler on the West Coast Main Line using any of the Pendolino Virgin trains.

Passengers will have access to email, internet and a range of applications using the new Wi-Fi HotSpot service, which has been deployed by Nomad Digital, one of the solution partners of T-Mobile.

Complimentary access to the new Wi-Fi service will be given to First Class passengers, whereas HotSpot passed can be purchased from Wi-Fi enabled devices by any other passengers on the train. Customers of mobile broadband contracts with T-Mobile will have unlimited access included in their plans for HotSpot access and will not need to pay anything to access the service.

By mid summer the 21 Super Voyager trains will be enabled for Wi-Fi HotSpot use, although the initial rollout of the service will take place on the 52 Pendolino train.

From business users checking emails or sending documents on the way to and from work, to people checking their Facebook, or downloading songs for the trip, this new mobile broadband service offers all passengers the opportunity to make the most of their journeys.”
