UK Online to be closed by Sky
Media and entertainment giant Sky has confirmed that it will be closing the online broadband subsidiary UK Online, with the closure scheduled for the early part of next year.

It has been announced by the media and entertainment giant Sky that it will be closing its online broadband subsidiary UK Online in the early part of next year. The subsidiary was acquired by Sky in 2005, when it purchased Easynet. However, the media giant has now decided that it will close down UK Online from January 14th in order to ‘better serve customers now and into the future’.
Customers that are currently with UK Online can switch to a Sky Broadband package ahead of this date if they wish to, so that they can keep their broadband service running smoothly. Those that decide to switch will benefit from an introductory offer that will see them getting six months of free broadband plus a free router.
This promotion will be available as part of the Sky Broadband Unlimited Deal, which gives subscribers download speeds of up to 20Mbps, and is offered to non-Sky customers for fifteen pounds per month. Those that live outside of Sky’s coverage areas will have to opt for the Connect tariff, which costs seventeen pounds a month with speeds of up to 8Mbps.
Subscribers with UK Online also have the option of moving to another broadband provider if they wish to do so, and can do this by obtaining the Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) from the existing provider, which will then be valid for thirty days, giving them time to find an alternative broadband provider.
