Sky broadband exceeds a million customers

November 28th, 2007 by Richard

According to a recent report from the media giant Sky, its broadband service has managed to attract over a million customers since it was launched just over a year ago. He Sky broadband service was launched just fourteen months ago, and since then customer have flocked to take up the service. With other big names such as Virgin losing customers hand over fist it seems that Sky broadband came along at just the right time for both customers that wanted improved service and for Sky to enjoy maximum take up on the service.

The Chief Executive of Sky stated: “Sky entered the broadband marketplace because we saw an opportunity to
challenge the established players and give customers something better. Our aim is to meet the hunger for better quality, better service and better value, so to be the choice of one million customers after just 14 months is a real achievement.”

Sky broadband is said to have achieved the fastest growth ever for a broadband company by accruing over a millions broadband customers in the space of just fourteen months. Sky only offers the broadband service to Sky television customers, and many of its television subscribers have also taken up on the broadband service since it was launched. Around seventy percent of the media giant’s broadband customers were existing television subscribers, but the remaining thirty percent are new subscribers that have signed up for both the television and broadband service.

Sky television subscribers are able to receive a free broadband base service from Sky. However, the majority of customers have opted for a paid for option that is available at a cost of ten pounds per month. This paid for service, which is called Sky Broadband Max, offers speeds of up to 16MB for this price. Around seventy percent of the company’s broadband customers have opted for the paid for service.
