The introduction of new direct mailing and press campaign by rivals Virgin Media and Sky point to the beginning of a heated battle in which both media giants look to win new subscribers to their broadband, phone and TV services.

The fight to gain each others subscribers has started with both Sky and Virgin Media bringing out press and direct mailing campaigns that have been named ‘reasons to switch.’

A tagline of ‘11 reasons to say hello to Sky (goodbye to Virgin Media)’ has been used to promote the services that are currently offered by Sky. By changing from rivals Virgin Media to itself Sky is claiming that customers can save themselves as much as £200 per year on monthly subscription charges. Other reasons to switch over to Sky are listed by the company as HD and TV packages, free access to Sky Broadband and cheap phone calls.

The campaign that has been called ‘Reasons to be with Virgin Media? Take your pick’ has also been launched by Virgin Media and in its campaign it states that the callout charges and the HD channels that are currently offered by Sky are more expensive than the services that are currently being offered by Virgin Media.

One of the big selling points for Virgin Media that has been used to bring in new subscribers recently has been the completion of its 50Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 broadband network which now offers users some of the fastest broadband access available in the country and to make matters worse for sky the new 50Mbps broadband service doesn’t use traffic management systems so its users no longer find themselves being slowed down at certain times of the day.
