Complaint not upheld against Sky HD
A complaint that was filed with the Advertising Standard Agency against claims made by Sky has not been upheld according to recent reports, with the communications and broadband giant Sky being cleared of wrongdoing by the regulator.
Sky has recently been cleared of wrongdoing by the Advertising Standards Agency following complaints. The complaint that was made to the Advertising Standards Agency related to a promotion on high definition TV by Sky, which offers broadband, television, and phone services.
Sky was recently cleared by the Advertising Standards Agency with regards to a promotion that it ran in-store with regards to its high definition (HD) programming service. The complaint was lodged over an in-store demonstration that claimed to be comparing both standard and Sky HD picture quality on one screen. However, complaints were made claiming that the side of the set that was showing the standard picture was of lower quality than the other side of the screen. According to reports a number of customers that had viewed the demonstration, which took place in-store, thought that the broadband and television provider was using a screen that had one lower quality half to make its HD service look all the more inviting and of higher quality.
Following the complaint the Advertising Standards Agency has sought advice and assistance from the UK’s communications regulator Ofcom, and having examined the content that was used by Sky in the promotion the agency ruled that the standard images were representative of digital TV services in general.
In a statement the Advertising Standards Agency stated: We therefore concluded that the comparison between digital TV SD and Sky HD was fair and unlikely to give a misleading impression about the image quality of Sky+HD.”
