No warning for Karoo file sharing customers

Recent reports have claimed that customers of the Internet Service Provider Karoo, who have been found to be sharing files, have been getting cut off without warning by the ISP.

According to a recent report one UK Internet Service Provider has decided to take drastic action against illegal file sharers, which will come as welcome news to the music and entertainment industry, which has been battling against illegal file sharing for some time. Many entertainment industry groups have been putting the pressure on Internet Service Providers to take action against illegal fie sharers and one company had started to take such action.

The Internet Service Provider Karoo has reportedly started cutting off customers that have been found to have been illegally file sharing without giving them any notice at all. The Hull based broadband supplier has been cutting off customers for offences such as downloading movies via BitTorrent. The measure is even more drastic that the original proposal by some Internet Service Providers of ‘three strikes and you’re out’, which was a proposal that failed to get the green light from the government in the Digital Britain Report.

One industry expert said that no other Internet Service Providers have yet taken such drastic measures, and that whilst the entertainment industry seemed to be surprised by the action it also went on to state that the ultimate course of action for illegal file sharing had to be decided by each individual Internet Service Provider.

Officials have also said that Karoo has its customers over a barrel when it comes to this course of action, as there is little or no broadband competition in the area, which would make it hard for disgruntled consumers to find another broadband provider that does not operate this measure.
