Expansion of broadband IPTV service from Tiscali

The benefits of expanding the broadband TV service from Tiscali is currently being looked into by Carphone Warehouse, the owners of TalkTalk, following its recent takeover of the broadband provider.

At the moment there are no plans to stop the IPTV service, which is currently accessed by over 50 000 users, according to the Carphone Warehouse following the approval of its recent acquisition of Tiscali for £236 million.

There has even been talk recently of expanding the current IPTV service offering according to chief executive of Carphone Warehouse, Charles Dunstone.

The scheme known as Project Canvas, which is currently headed up by the BBC and will be providing broadband users with access to digital TV channels, is also being looked into by the company said Mr Dunstone.

He added “We might say Canvas isn’t the answer and we will go and reinvigorate Tiscali TV.”

With the use of an ADSL broadband connection a combination of video-on-demand content and TV channels, of which a large number are the same as those offered using a freeview box, are offered to user of Tiscali TV.

Users of the Tiscali TV service can also access channels like Sky Movie and Sky Sports as well as Gold and the National Geographic channels for an additional monthly fee.

The expansion of this service has most probably been considered as an effort to offer broadband user’s access to unique services that many of its rivals currently do not. With the takeover of Tiscali the mobile broadband provider TalkTalk is now a strong contender in the broadband Marketplace rivaling that of Virgin Media and BT and the addition if the Tiscali TV could draw in a lot more customers looking for something to use their high speed broadband on.
