Customers may lose broadband over Tiscali debts
Many customers of the Internet Service Provider Tiscali could end up losing their broadband service over the ISPs failure to pay its debts.
There could be bad news on the horizon for many customers of the Internet Service Provider Tiscali, according to recent reports. It has been claimed that customers that have taken out broadband with Tiscali are at risk of having their broadband connections cut off as a result of the Internet Service Provider’s Failure to make payments on its debts.
Recently independent auditors warned about the Italian based ISP. Officials from the auditors, Ernst & Young, said that there were ‘fundamental uncertainties’ with regards to what the future held for Tiscali, and that the ISP would need to reach a settlement with regards to its mounting debts if it wanted to remain in operation.
Officials from Tiscali have said that a shareholder meeting is to be held before May, and here a plan is to be proposed with regards to making repayments on debts. An official from Tiscali added: “In the meantime the company continues to operate as normal both in Italy and in the UK both with customers and suppliers.”
However, this has done nothing to quell the concerns harboured by the nearly two million broadband customers that face loss of service if the prediction does come to fruition. One industry expert said: “People are right to worry about the fortunes of their ISPs in the current climate. The problems suffered by two high-profile ISPs suggests that more broadband providers could be hit in months to come. It’s imperative that consumers and businesses keep a very close eye on their broadband provider – especially as the credit crunch worsens.”
