Pigeon race marks launch of new Plusnet broadband service
Internet service provider Plusnet has recently marked the launch of its new broadband service in an unusual way – with a Plusnet Fibre Pigeon Race!

There are many different ways in which companies market and mark the launch of a new product or service but one company has recently marked the launch of its service in rather an unusual way. Internet provider Plusnet has recently launched its new Fibre Optic Broadband service with a Plusnet Fibre Pigeon Race.
Twenty pigeons took flight earlier this week including the pigeon of former Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett. The pigeons set off on a one hundred and fifty mile journey back to Yorkshire after being released in Potters Field in London. As the pigeons took to the air Plusnet got busy checking the broadband download speeds on the new service against the amount of time it took for the first pigeon to land following the 150 mile flight.
By the time the first bird, Byron, landed Plusnet had downloaded twelve episodes of Dr Who from iTunes on the new up to 40Mbps service, which was a total of 21GB and was six times more than would have been possible with the average download speed of 6.2Mbps.
The new Plusnet service is now available to both existing and new customers who live in areas that are fibre enabled, and prices start at £16.49 per month. The feedback from customer trials with regards to the new broadband service is that they enjoyed far greater speeds now than they did previously, with nearly three quarters of those involved in the trial having seen big improvements.
An official from Plusnet said: “Plusnet Fibre is the next generation of broadband and 96 per cent of our trialists say they would recommend the service to friends. We thought the pigeon race was a light-hearted way to illustrate the speed advance that Plusnet Fibre can offer.”
