Fibre optic broadband trial started by Plusnet
Broadband provider Plusnet has started a trial allowing customers to get access to fibre optic broadband, which could offer access speeds of up to 100Mbps.
For many broadband users in the UK plans to roll out fibre based broadband networks to the wider public have been welcomed, as many are keen to see their broadband speeds improved. It has now been confirmed that broadband provider Plusnet is conducting a major trial of fibre optic broadband technology allowing customers to get access to higher speed broadband.
The company revealed the trial in a recent blog posting, and also said that one of its customers had become the first in the UK to go live on the BT FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) project, which will provide access to speeds of up to 100Mbps.
Officials from Plusnet said that more customers will be going live on the service over the coming weeks, and the provider will also be contacting other customers to see whether they would be interested in taking part in the trial. The company, which recently won the best consumer customer service award at the Internet Service Providers‘ Association Awards, said that the technology would help to sort out various problems and issues that customers using copper connections may have experienced.
Dave Tomlinson from Plusnet stated: “Unlike existing DSL broadband services there’s no copper involved in the connection, an engineer will run fibre optic cable direct to your home. As such, certain limitations on copper such as the speed decreasing the further you are from the exchange are no longer an issue.”
