Could Orange do more to aid its mobile broadband base?

With the popularity of mobile broadband soaring at present, officials are concerned that communications giant Orange could be getting its priorities all wrong

In the world of technology mobile broadband has been dominating the headlines lately, with this relatively new, advanced technology gaining popularity quickly amongst consumers that are looking for flexibility and convenience when using broadband. A range of providers are vying for custom in this increasingly competitive market, offering consumers great deals on mobile broadband in order to gain a larger share of the market.

However, according to a recent report the communications giant Orange may be missing out when it comes to the mobile broadband market, with some officials claiming that the provider has got its priorities all wrong, and may therefore be losing out on the chance to become on of the bigger players in the world of mobile broadband.

In fact, rather than offering consumers competitive deals on mobile broadband in the same way that many other mobile broadband providers have done, Orange appears to be focussing more on its fixed broadband service whilst raising the costs of mobile broadband, which could mean that it is missing out on the chance to make it big in this fast developing sector.

One analyst from Ovum recently said that Orange may be pricing itself out of the mobile broadband market with its hiked up fees, and that the firm needs to put more emphasis on promoting its mobile broadband service rather than focussing its energies into just its fixed line service. He said: “Orange is missing a major opportunity due to a strategic emphasis on fixed broadband, combined with almost no marketing and exorbitant pricing for its mobile broadband offering.”
