Mobile network operator O2 has revealed that for the first month it will only be making the iPhone 4 available to existing customers due to lack of supplies.

The recent release of the iPhone 4 has caused a lot of excitement in the mobile phone world, and as expected there were many tech savvy consumers that had been eagerly awaiting the release of the smart phone and were ready and waiting to place their orders as soon as lines for pre-ordering opened.

In fact, so many people were waiting to get their hands on the new and improved iPhone when it hit the shelves that websites that were taking pre-orders crashed on the first day. In fact, the demand for the new iPhone is so high compared to supply that one mobile network provider has made a decision with regards to who will be eligible to get the new iPhone 4.

O2 has announced that for the first month it will only be making the iPhone available to its existing customers as it has to address the issue of a shortage of supplies. The provider has also stated that in the first few days of supply only those that have subscribed to mobile broadband, home broadband, or mobile phone services with O2 will be able to get their hands on the device through this provider.

An official from O2 said: “We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us. Whether you’re an existing O2 mobile customer looking to upgrade, or one of our broadband customers looking to move your mobile to O2, our iPhone stock is reserved exclusively for you. ”
