No more unlimited data for mobile broadband users from O2

According to reports the mobile network provider O2 has now joined other providers in capping the download limits it offers on its packages for mobile broadband users wanting smart phones.

In the past those signing up for mobile broadband services with the mobile network operator O2 have been able to enjoy plenty of choice, including the opportunity to enjoy unlimited downloads with their mobile broadband package. However, according to reports O2 has now joined the variety of other mobile network operators in doing away with its uncapped data download limit packages and replacing them with a set of fixed monthly data download limits.

From 24th June customers will have three packages to choose from with their smart phone service from O2, and these packages will offer 500MB, 750MB, or 1GB of data, depending on the needs of the consumer. However, O2 will be running a promotion that will allow new smart phone users to benefit from unlimited data until the start of October, after which they will have to buy bolt ons for any extra data they require over and above their capped limit.

The new tariffs will apply to new customers from June 24th but for existing customers will not come into play until it is time for them to renew their contract. O2 officials also believe that most of its smart phone customers – around ninety seven percent – will only use around 500Mb or less of data, so most will not need additional bolt ons.

An O2 official said: “With the wide range of Internet based services now available on mobile devices we’re providing customers with generous clear data bundles that give customers freedom. This enables us to provide a better overall experience for the vast majority of customers and to better manage demand.”
