It has been reported that the communications giant O2 has launched its first successful live Long Term Evolution Trial in the UK near its headquarters in Slough.

According to recent reports the mobile phone giant O2 has recently launched its first live successful LTE (Long Term Evolution) trial, which has been launched close to the headquarters of the company, which is in Slough. The trial is being conducted by O2 in conjunction with Huawei. Officials from O2 said that the trial would provide them with a vital insight to a technology that was still emerging.

Derek McManus, CTO of O2 UK, stated: “We are pleased to collaborate with Huawei on this LTE trial, which will allow us to better understand this emerging technology and prepare us in offering our customers next generation mobile broadband services in the future.”

Samuel Sun, managing director of Huawei UK, said: “Huawei is very keen to be involved with the Telefónica O2 UK trials for LTE/SAE technology. We have demonstrated our state-of-the-art mobile technologies and capability to deliver on our promise. These trials will give an excellent reference to Telefónica O2 for the evaluation of LTE technology.”

Reports claim that during the LTE trials that were carried out by O2 and Huawei cell peak download rates of up to 150Mbps were achieved. Officials have said that there has been very slow movement with both Wimax and LTE in the UK, with part of the problem being the allocation of spectrum. However, reports have claimed that the technologies could become more and more popular as demand for mobile services grows and as a result of the government’s Digital Britain plans.
