Mobile broadband provider to raise profile of home broadband service across UK

May 2nd, 2008 by Richard

O2, the communication giant that offers mobile broadband, is launching a marketing campaign to raise the profile of its new residential broadband service

Communications giant O2 has launched a marketing and advertising campaign to raise the profile of its new home broadband service, which is it offering on a nationwide basis to all UK homes. Using the BT wholesale network service O2 Home Broadband will be available in areas where the local BT phone exchange has not been unbundled.

As part of the launch of its residential broadband service the firm is ploughing six million pounds into marketing and advertising. The company wants to try and compete with the big boys in the broadband market, and is taking advantage of the competitiveness of the market. Having acquired Be Broadband in 2006 it was a while before O2 made an impact on the broadband market. O2 launched a broadband service for those with O2 contract phones last year, and for customers with O2 pay as you go phones this year.

Over one hundred thousand people currently use the O2 service, but with the massive advertising and marketing campaign O2 officials hope to break through the one million barrier by 2010. It is also now offering business broadband for small and medium sized businesses, which will come with a range of benefits.

One official from O2 stated: “We launched O2 home broadband six months ago with the intention of providing a quality service that would renew customer confidence in the broadband industry and are pleased to be delivering on this promise. With a great track record behind us, we feel we are in a strong position to go after a larger market share, offering nationwide broadband coverage and a business proposition alongside a proven, excellent service.”

Does anyone have experience of mobile broadband coverage in Cornwall? I travel down their regularly and am thinking about signing up with a mobile broadband provider but have heard coverage can be poor in some rural areas. I’ve been looking at various different mobile broadband providers here: http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/broadband/mobile and am leaning towards Vodafone.

Any advice would be great. I don’t want to sign up and find I’m paying for a product that doesn’t work!
