Network service provider O2 recently announced that it will be working with telecommunications giant, BT to provide its customers with fixed line services including high-speed broadband access for the first time.

Business customers will receive a range of professional consultancy services from the new combined communications service, which will include broadband, fixed-line and mobile and BT wholesale will be providing the fixed-line element of these services.

Businesses will benefit from a less complex service and a reduction in the costs by bringing all the communications services together under a single supplier, according to O2.

In a statement the business sales director for O2, Ben Dowd advised “Businesses are often dealing with a hugely complex network of suppliers but are motivated to simplify and streamline their bought-in costs.”

He went on to add “By moving into the fixed line market we are now able to provide our business customers with a genuine end-to-end service which incorporates landline, broadband and hi-speed data as well as the mobile and consultancy services we already offer.”

End user billing and end user contact services will still be provided by O2 whilst the second line helpdesk support and the operation of the service management centre will now be carried out by BT under the new five year contract that has been signed by the two companies.

The chief executive for BT Wholesale, Sally Davis advised in a statement “As telecoms operators look to increase their revenues in today’s capital constrained environment, they are increasingly choosing to partner with an experienced wholesaler to help them deliver a seamless and unified communications service for their customers. Through BT Wholesale’s fully managed service, O2 can now expand into a new market with greater operational certainty and without the need for upfront capital investment.”
