Use of mobile Internet on the rise in the UK

According to a recently released report the number of pages that have been viewed via mobile Internet in the UK has nearly doubled over the past year.

With the wide range of advertisements, products, and services that have been launched in relation to the mobile broadband industry it is little wonder that mobile broadband has taken off so well in the UK over the past few months.

According to recently released figures it seems that consumers can’t get enough of mobile browsing, with figures suggesting that since the start of this year the number of pages that have been viewed via mobile Internet have almost doubled, having gone up by around ninety four percent.

The figures from the Opera State of the Mobile Web report, and this shows that the top ranked site amongst users is Google, with the second being Facebook, which has overtaken Yahoo. The report also looked at the various phones that were used for the Opera Mini Browser, both in the UK and Europe, and in the United States.

The results showed that Opera Mini user tended to prefer Nokia handsets for their browsing, with the top two handsets being the Nokia 6300 and 6500. Samsung took third place in terms of handsets used by users, and the fourth place was taken by the Nokia N95.

Officials from Opera said that the figures show that the popularity of mobile broadband was growing on a global basis, even in places where PC and broadband penetration was already high. One official said: “It is growing because consumers are used to having ubiquitous access to the web and expect to have it whenever they are.” He went on to predict: “The next billion people will use the web first on their mobile phones. Once that happens we will finally both unleash the vast potential and realise the greatest benefit of the mobile web.”
