Pay for your restaurant meal by iPhone

With technology getting more and more advanced the time has now come when you can pay for your restaurant meal by tapping a code into your iPhone with the need to wait for the waiting staff to come over.

For many people the worst part of going out for a meal is waiting for what seems like forever for a waiter or waitress to come over so that you can settle the bill and leave the restaurant. Some people feel embarrassed about trying to get the attention of the waiting staff and end up sitting there for a long period of time before someone comes over.

However, a new idea that is being pioneered by payment company Paypal and pizza chain Pizza Express could see smart phone users being able to pay from their seats via a smart phone app and then leave the restaurant whenever they are ready. Mobile broadband and internet has become very popular and many people now have smart phones, which could see this facility become very popular with huge numbers of people.

The idea is being tested at Pizza Express eateries across the country this week, and is only available on iPhone at present. A Pizza Express app will have to be downloaded by the iPhone owner in order to make the payment. During the evening the customer will need to let waiting staff know that they are planning to pay this way so that they can get a special code that needs to be entered on their phone when they pay.

A Pizza Express official said: “Many families with young children have experienced that melt-down moment at the end of a meal, when the children are playing up and they just want to pay and go. This, we hope, will take that stress away.”
