Over nineteen million UK homes now have internet access

A report has recently been released by the Office for National Statistics showing that there are now over nineteen million homes in the UK that have internet access.

There is no doubt that over recent year the take up of broadband and internet services has rocketed across the UK, and this has been fuelled by a number of factors, including the increased number of goods and services available online and the increased value for money available on the wide range of broadband services available.

The report from the ONS suggests that seventy three percent of homes in the UK now have access to the internet, and this formed part of the 2010 Internet Access Households and Individuals report. The report also showed how internet use had rocketed over recent years, with just over thirty million adults using the internet every day, which is nearly double the number that were doing so just a few years ago in 2006.

Mark Williams from the Office for National Statistics said: “Since 2006 we have seen a significant increase in the number of people using the Internet, with the number of adults accessing the Internet every day almost doubling to just over 30 million.”

However, he also said that the UK was a long way from getting everyone online, as there were still around nine million people that had never actually used the internet, and these were most likely to be elderly people, low income households, and people with no formal qualifications.
